The only reason he's so popular is because his videos got featured due to a combo of his AVGN impersonation and special effects most people don't have in their videos. Then finally when it comes out, it's less than 10 minutes and it sounds like he's reading a fucking Wikipedia page.

Blip is more forgiving because its servers are in Tuvalu (that's what "tv" in "blip tv") stands for. Youtube servers are in United States. Copyright laws are easier to enforce when the actual, physical servers are physically in United States.

dam, had I known people would actually listen to this, I would have transferred it after highlighting it. Didn't think anyone cared about TGWTG.
Also I like how Linkara is a "Feminist" yet when he disagrees with Lindsay he immediately throws her sex in her face by saying "Boring Lady" But Linkara is a tool anyone, no one should take anything he says seriously.

@TheWebBard Just going "boring lady" isn't throwing her sex in her face... it's just the way the language works, it's hard not to refer to someone's gender in a phrase like that and not sound forced. Should he have said "boring person"? Also, it was a joke. Note how she chuckles rather than is offended.

It's just a replacement for, 'boring human' which would sound less natural or 'boring boy' which would be incorrect. Don't get me wrong. I find him to have frequent doublestandards all the time. Being a christian feminist is something rather paradoxical for starters and he once referred to a character's chest as being 'freakishly huge' fan service. Way to ignore the feelings of 'freakishly huge' viewers.

Blip is more forgiving because its servers are in Tuvalu (that's what "tv" in "blip tv") stands for. Youtube servers are in United States. Copyright laws are easier to enforce when the actual, physical servers are physically in United States.

Personaly I can still remember how unpopular the people of The Room got after it got out how much of a douchebag they were on the TGWTG site, movies and products get free advertisement on the site and people get a good laugh and Doug earn a few from things.. People put too much into this, people saying that they've ''given up'' on it and all.. I mean for Christ's sake.. I just come there once a week, watch the commerical and then watch Doug's next review, it's entertainment, simple as that.

using movies footage in review is not breaking copyright law. education, review, comedy and many more are exceptions which allow usage of footage in reviews.

@StrazdasLT You missed the point. When you use other clips, like "Of Course" in a review that is not Street Fighter you are breaking copyright law, or when Linkara uses a MST3K reference. Using footage for comedy IS NOT fair use, you need permission. Because Doug uses footage for criticism and comedy it is a little blurred but he can get away with it legally.

Very interesting video. I really like how articulate Lindsay was in this video. In finland, the Pirate Party is trying to get some seats in the parliament, and would also drive some laws, that would give people like NC and Lindsay legal protection to do what they want.

Didn't know there was so much hate for TGWTG. Personally, I can do without 90% of their content, but some of the Nostalgia Critic stuff is hilarious. His recent Stephen King reviews had me ROFLing pretty hard. Sequel month, especially. And I almost always dig Nostalgia Chick. She's pretty! (Also smart, but very pretty.)

Intellectual property law is a strict liability area; it doesn't matter whether the infringements were knowingly made. The only question is WHETHER they were made.
As far as a court would be concerned, her personal admissions to the effect that they were made would not be particularly useful. She's not a legal expert, and even if she were, SO IS THE COURT. The court doesn't have to go elsewhere for legal expertise.

@Davethe3rd She won't actually be sued though. If she were threatened by a major distribution company she'd give in immediately. None of them have the balls to take a dispute to court, because what they're doing is in a legal grey area, but 99% of the time in cases of this nature the distributors win out, because TGWTG is ultimately making money off a product which is almost entirely comprised of material created by the other party. Nostalgia Chick knows her shit. Linkara needs to STFU.

You don't have to make money for companies to be upset about their copyrights being infringed. This is true. It doesn't even matter if the owning company is still making money off the property.
NC is totally right in this instance. Still don't like her, but it's nice to see ONE person on TGWTG understands copyright law.
