  • Also, this sounds NOTHING like fix you, retards.

  • Who cares man? Fix you is a fucking beast song. I listen to that shit every day. Everyone stop arguing about stupid things like this song sounds like the other. Just enjoy the fkn music and stfu.

  • @geowoondana @JimBeek im sorry for the fans of Coldplay, but i think that all the professional musicians of the world will agree with me if i say that Elbow is better than Coldplay because they are more complex for questions of rythm and harmony. I dont say that Coldplay songs are not nice or good, i just say they are more simple and comercial. But i respect all the people. You keep listening to Coldplay, I'll keep listening to Elbow, and everybody will be happy. Happy New Year to everybody.

  • I feel sorry the auditive sense of the 8 people that doesn't like this song...

  • here for Fix You.

  • elbow is far better than coldplay, that's sure.

  • @tenderlywild

    Dream on

  • @tenderlywild

    Yeah right...

  • @tenderlywild dude.. no

  • Can we stop with the Coldplay comparisons? Elbow and Coldplay are probably laughing their holes off if they're reading these retarded comments. This is not Coldplay. This is not Coldplay - sad to see that the two most rated comments are about Coldplay. This is Elbow and its a fucking great song. Nothing else should be added!

  • In dark times this song really makes me feel like everything is still worth it. So incredibly inspiring..

  • Great song. Love elbow

  • i spot jimi goodwin?

  • @cychong91It is Jimi, indeed. And that, my friend, is why this is the most amazing video on YouTube.

(I basically mean they all fuckin' rock.)

  • @TeresaCruz So true! XD

  • this sounds like Led Zeppelin's 'The rain song' at the beginning

  • 8 people are not graceful under pressure

  • this vid is outstanding

  • 8 fucking retards then

  • We still believe in love...

  • OMG this song is AWESOME! And its the first time I hear it!

  • my absolute, all time favorite song by any artist ... ever!!!

  • XXX

  • Put aside the swirling "rock, attack drumming feel"

A most beautiful paeon to the kindness and gentility of the gentler soul. XXX

  • Dunno what it is about this one, but from about 10 seconds in I'm smiling, by the end I'm happy all over, like when you walk in sunshine.

  • Elbow recorded this in STUDIO2 in Liverpool's Parr Street Studios - now owned by Gary Millar, Steve Macfarlane and Thomas Lang

  • Recorded in Liverpool in Parr Street Studios amazing STUDIO2 - awesome song

  • Amazing: Jimi Goodwin. PRICELESS

  • wtf? this sounds nothing like Fix you, though in my opinion, both songs r awsome n both groups r 2 :D even though i prefer Coldplay as the best band even if they did steal only 1VERSE in Viva la vida

  • wtf? this sounds nothing like Fix you, though in my opinion, both songs r awsome n both groups r 2 :D

  • sounds a bit like Led Zepplins Rain Song guitar wise ? anyone agree ?

  • is that Guy Garvey chipping in on backing vocals?

  • @helminatorx ermmm I meant Jimmy Goodwin

  • Who the fxxk is Chris Martin anyway?

"We all believe in love, so fxxk youuuuuuuuu" - best ending lyrics to a song ever :)

  • @ggnkua

What's the point in using the word fuck if you're going to censore it yourself?

And on a general note, awesome song.

  • Who the fxxk is Chris Martin anyway?

  • Ha i expected a shit version of fix you...this is so much better. I can't stand coldplay. I used to like them, but then saw them live and just realised how fake they are. My brother and his girlfriend sat next to me in tears the whole time....fucking horrible. But the worst part, best part for me anyway, was in that song yellow, Chris martin was jumping around with his guitar and suddenly, the lead came out. And the acoustic guitar kept playing. Yep. It happened. My mate saw the same thing.

  • @tjdrummer13 There's a lead guitarist in Coldplay named Jonny Buckland. You might want to look into that.

  • @axcertypo No, but the big cheery acoustic guitar at the start, that kept going. I can tell the difference between electric and acoustic guitar.

And it's strange looking back on that comment because i kind of like them now, mainly parachutes.

  • @tjdrummer13 If you're right, which would be surprising, it wouldn't bother me since sometimes bands need some backup music whilst touring day and night. :P

  • @tjdrummer13 sucks for you and good for your brother as well as his girlfriend. They are happy with Coldplay's music and that's all. Do you want to want to convince them to stop listening to Coldplay? I affair that will be hard and you should shut the fuck up. Fix you and this song are both awesome. I hop your brother still be happy with his music even though how fake Coldplay are.

  • Inspiration and copying are two different things. If you aquire inspiration from something it's the feeling that counts. It lights a *spark* in yourself and from then everything is original. Copying is with your eyes and ears...

  • simply awesome

  • feeling the beat to this drummers god like

  • They really don't sound anything alike, but Martin cited this as one of his inspirations. Why can't some people get that all music inspires others to create something of their own. Just because you think they sound the same doesn't mean it's copied or plagiarized.

  • @Jared749

Then again, this IS coldplay we are talking about.

  • Coldplay is a good band. Comparing their music to them is worthless. This band right here has beautiful and unique music just like Coldplay. Trying to compare the two is a complete waste of time. Both bands evidently make beautiful music.

  • layer upon , layer of magic!!!!

  • dont admire coldplay, they steal and plagerize all their music

  • @Alexriseagainst The question is, do they plagiarise more than other bands? Seriously, there's only so many chord combinations and Chris said this inspired him, I'm not surprised the songs sound similar. But a rip-off? No.

  • @Gwidgee rip off yes, coldplay sucks they are stealers

  • A nice Tuesday evening song........

  • Hmm yes, Coldplay did completely rip off this song and it's hilarious really because I think they did it really badly. I actually cringe at the start when Chris Martin's voice kicks in, it just sounds horrendous. In all fairness though, I think Grace Under Pressure is phenomenal and I can't quite imagine any other band copying the same formula and being able to create such a beauty.

  • loving this tuuune, as usual with most of Elbow's tracks , you start to listen to it on plain and then before you know it, you've been subconsiously moved toanother...

  • Hey guys, you don't have to diss another band to like another. That's immature and close minded. I love Elbow. I love Coldplay. Both Fix You and Grace Under Pressure are my favourite running songs. They make me want to explode/get into a car and drive across America. Very few bands have the power to do that. Cheers.

  • by the way, what an awesome song. Elbow always sounded to me like a metal band , i dunno why. i never checked them out til now

  • I used to be a huge Coldplay fan, but I've just come to the realization that their music is--heart-felt, emotional, and catchy--bland and unoriginal. I've been reading a prodigious amount of articles lately concerning Coldplay and lawsuits. At first I thought it was jealousy and greed at the band, but a band can only be sued so many times. Even if they didn't plagiarize, they had to be very unoriginal to come up with these very common melodies. Fuck Coldplay, I'm taking that shit off my iPod now

  • @elcakester

Congratulations mate, you've seen the light. May I recommend the 'Cast of Thousands' album for you? Elbow is eons more entertaining than Coldplay.

  • For everyone discussing, i think Coldplay are just generally pretty fucking shit compared to elbow

  • and try to listen this song at 85% of speed and tempo slowed down to ~0,90x and then compare it to the fix you.

  • i remembered what does it remind me. try listen a song called refugee (band 'this beautiful mess' from netherlands, album is 'temper the wind to the shorn lamb') intro is 99% the same and maybe rest of the song. elbow recorded this song when? in 2002? album came out in 2003 august. this beautiful mess released their album in 2003 september. one month after elbow.

  • this is nothing like fix you

  • I love this!!!!

  • fix you>this

  • I have always thought that Coldplay and Elbow have the same kind of atmosphere in their songs... perhaps Elbow is a little more intense and mischievous sometimes and Coldplay more dreamy and soft...

  • We still believe in love, so fuck you!

  • great song!

  • over here in the colonies, been waiting a long time to see elbow live. finally got a chance when they opened for coldplay (meh.) - amazing set but way too short. my dream is one day to hear the boys play this one live.

  • I saw them here in the UK in Birmingham about four years ago. They played this song. I had goosebumps and ever so slight tears. Absolutely wonderful performance, especially as Guy had broken his leg (!) that very day.

  • Wow! What an amazing Guy! (see what I did thur? xD)

  • So awesome seeing Jimi Goodwin there singing with Guy.

  • @greyseaproductions yeah two true artists

  • I'm a huuuge cold play fan, but i believe this song is awsome.. it really is.. but i belive fix you is not nearly close to being a copy of this song.. I don't see what the problem is, every artist is infuenced or inspired by others.. Fix you is clearly inspired by this tune but they are worlds apart.. Cold play should get a break.. they do great music with amazing lyrics.. i don't care were they get their inspiration.. But that's my opinion.. i dont mean to offend anyone

  • exactly

  • we believe in love, so fuck you.

  • just spotted Jimi from doves in there, another good manc band

  • Well, "speedingcamel", it sure isn't Rihanna or Kanye, but I guess it's okay for what it is. *rolls eyes*

  • yeah because i listen to kanye and rihnasuarus all day

  • oh forgot the *rolls eyes*

  • Chris Martin said it inspired him. Perhaps it's just organ and tempo and atmosphere. I admire Coldplay but this song is far better than Fix You in my view

  • Can Chris Martin drum like this? One of the most complex pieces of "modern" music of the last 30 years. The drumming alone would crack yer nuts

  • The drumming is actually pretty simple.

  • @Kenentigern7

    lol its will champion

  • @Kenentigern7

is chris martin a drummer.. no

  • so comforting...

  • doesn't sound anything like Fix You.

  • @williemiller1983 it does a little. that part of coldplay song, where drums comes in and whole band singing 'tears stream down your face...'. only coldplay there play a bit slower.

  • i tried listening to the similarities but couldn't place them. where in particular?

  • i agree

  • Just rolls off the tongue...

  • Wicked our kid !!!

  • beautiful song

  • These guys are all about getting together and having a great time making great music with eachother. You can tell that there chemistry with eachother is very tight by the songs that they produce.

  • simply amazing.

  • Excuse removals, they were mistakes in time. Its amazing how all great music is connected. Jimi Goodwin (Doves) sings backup on this one [On the right in 1:41]. Those are a couple of my favorite bands...

  • yes! Elbow is actually a Radiohead, Doves and Coldplay's favorite.

  • ...and Blur and U2

  • Altogether now.."WE STILL BELIEVE IN LOVE SO FUCK YOU !"

  • chris martin is foolin u all stupid fans.. the lyrics are inspired by this song, but actual inspiration for the tune comes from Pixies- where's my minD listen to it just once ... poor pixies.. so pathetic... & colDplay is number 1...

  • chris martin was inspired but he didn't copy this song to write fix you, every author is inspired by something. even he doesn't want, he will be inspired by everything that is in his environment

  • i love this band so much.

i loved them even more when they were on t in the park this year.

    simply amazing.

  • this song is great.. i also don't see similarities with the coldplay song really...

  • well you need to clean your ears out then pal. 'terrible' for fuck sake!

  • sorry folks, there really is little similarity to any of these songs mentioned. These guys are a rare combination of insightful & emotional lyrics, sound musicianship and huge creativity. Talk about thinking outside the box. Talk about experimentation. Talk about uniqueness. Don't talk about comparisons...your really just spinning wheels. Caught these guys on the Live from Abbey Road series and got hooked! Wish they were better known in the States!!!

  • Agreed that Elbow is incredible. But one note: Chris Martin is the one who said that "Fix You" was inspired by "Grace Under Pressure."

  • what the hell why isn't this band huge with such a great, great song. but then again, that could kill the magic a bit..

  • Yeah. I can't really notice any similarities between this and Fix You by Coldplay, either. Infact, the only thing that's even REMOTELY close, is the arrangement in which the song is laid out. It does kind of have that "vibe". But only slightly. I think Fix You reminds me more of a U2 song (All I Want Is You) than anything. Kind of like the U2 song, Ultraviolet reminds me heavily of the Ride song Vapour Trail. Only that's MORE similar than this will EVER get to Fix You.

  • Who cares what song it reminds you of. Music can sound similar, but be in a compleeetely different vein.

but, hold on....this song sounds nothing like fix you?! :S

It has a wailing hammond organ in it, but thats all i really spotted. Hammond organs deffo weren't first used by coldplay i'll have you know hahahaha!!!

Don't anyone argue about this song being copied or owt please. I couldn't care any less to hear any mindless bull....

  • I second that motion

  • Let it be known at 2009 BC Elbow wiil be the band where everyone realsises you don't have to die to achieve fame ...you don' t have to have a famous father or mother ...what I am trying to say is Guy is the next John Lennon ...ONLY BETTER...... grace under pressure....sorry Beatles fans lol!

  • btw i can even hear some similarity with this song en the song " if i had words to make a day for you"...

or do i have to check my ears ?

  • @MJvdS91 You mean the third movement of Saint-Saens 3rd Symphony: the "Organ Symphony". The song you remember ("If I had Words" by the Congregation) was written years before it came a hit but had to wait for release until the 50th anniversary of Saint-Saens death so no royalties would be paid for using the tune. I can almost here the similarity you mention.

  • i like this song

    i like fix you

i can can see some similarity but they doesnt sound the same at all

    whatever

    enjoy listening

  • Why is this song sparking debates involving Coldplay? The drums sound more like a Stone Roses or DJ Shadow beat and the rest of it has almost nothing in common with Coldplay other than being English, melodic rock, and textured...

Stop fighting and start enjoying music for what it is, not what you decide to irrationally compare it to.

  • agreed. this sounds nothing like Coldplay.

the melody actually reminds me of a South African chant

Though they're certainly not ripping it off...

sweet melodies have a way of emerging all over the world

    it's a good thing!

  • Wow, the drums do sound like a DJ Shadow beat. Reminiscent of 'Blood On The Motorway' eh?

  • coldplay stole this for the song fix you. robbing twats

  • Nothing like it. I can't pick a similarity. For one the lyrics dont match and neither does the melody. HEY, Maybe if you play the LP backwards? =o)

  • You're joking right?

This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and to even begin to compare with that shite Coldplay is just laughable.

  • i am entitled to my opinion. but now that i have listened to this more then once, it actually is a good song.. but i still do think Coldplay is better.

  • Bloody hell, that was a quick reply!!!

To be honest I probably dislike Cris Martin more than Coldplay as a band.

  • haha yeah i was on at the time..

and yeah i know what you mean.. he is kindof a douche bag.. but their music is really good. they just have to stick to making their own melodies, instead of using other peoples.. which is what they do a lot :S

  • You must be joking? This song gives me a headache. Nothing like Fix You. Maybe compare it to Stairway to Heaven. That could be a closer match! FFS!

  • yeah right pal. have you got a music taste?

  • pretty sure i do.

  • At the end of this song...after the fuck you part, there's a sound---like machinery, or something. Anyone know what that is or the significance?

  • It's a woman screaming. Maybe, to represent breaking through the mould, or how passionate some people feel.

  • No no. After the scream. It's a much more mechanical sound. rhythmic....and then abruptly stops.

  • That part is a loop of the Glasto crowd singing it, and I believe that 'sound is someone shrieking...

  • On the album, this song runs into the next song...you're hearing that transition.

  • oooooooooooooooooow

  • i love coldplay and someone said this was like "fix you". i don't think there is a resemblance but this song is good

  • nada que ver con coldplay

  • Hey anyone know what they are singing at the end of the song?

  • We still believe in love so fuck you :)

  • niiiiiice.

  • i see the relativing with fix you

  • What an amazing band. I'm kinda glad they aren't as big as they should be. I love the fact they play small, intimate shows with packed crowds of people who actually care about good music. I hope this doesn't change.

  • I love the way the drummer hits the bass pedal, he takes his foot off the pedal, not conventional but works well for him XD

  • I'm not hearing any Coldplay similarity. But I'm quite glad I checked into it, because this is a really good song. Wow. Intense stuff.

  • I don't know. i like coldplay. I like a bit of everything. and I liked elbow before their fame.

  • people claim coldplay stole this for fix you. i fail to see that! it sounds nothing alike. coldplay are coldplay! not "elbow"

  • so amazing ッ

  • Richard Jupp is an amazing drummer.

Then again the whole band are just too good.

  • Comment removed

  • Coldplay are good. But elbow have a more instrumental side to their music. Which I prefer.

  • yeah i like coldplay theyre good, but this is what seperates the men from the boys. you wont get a better contempory band around that are better than these blokes. fucking absolute quality!

  • It seem so me that most people who are into Elbow are too diplomatic and nice, Let's be honest, none of you like Coldplay, they're fuckin' shit.

  • lol AMEN to that !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @eebsy I wouldn't go quite that far criticising Coldplay. The two notes they play are usually quite well played!

  • holy FUCK that drumming is god-like.

  • I'm an old eejiit and have just discovered Elbow. My daughter is not slow on the old rythmn basins herself, and when asked she advised this would take her at least 2 weeks to master. F3kn superbus maximus!

  • i think the only thing coldplay copied was the way the song built up into a big harmony but that hardly makes it a copy

anyway it doesnt matter because we all know that coldplay are just a diluted, media friendly version of bands like elbow and radiohead

  • Bleh.

  • Richard Jupp, one of the BEST drummers in the world.

  • re: Fix you

"This is a direct Chris Martin quote, on his song writing.

"Were definitely good, but I dont think you can say were that original, he notes. I regard us as being incredibly good plagiarists.

In another article, the song Fix You was specifically mentioned as being a copy of Elbows Grace Under Pressure. To that, guitarist Jonny Buckland had this to say.

Weve never so directly stolen off anyone before. Weve never paid for our plagiarism"

  • Fix YOU?????????? How dare you? Coldplay are not fit to clean elbows jock strap. More meaning, more life, more soul. I dont hate coldplay but there is no comparison AT ALL.

  • I hate codplay :-)

  • check out interpol - untitled if this is your thing, it certainly is mine!

  • This doesn't sound anything like Fix You. I mean there are some similarites but melodies are diff.

  • i completely agree zengravy. the drums in this song are insane! love it!

  • Coldplay's "Fix You" has more similarities with

"Where is My Mind" by The Pixies.

  • nahhhh

  • Just.. just.. The DRUMS!!!
