  • holy shit....thank you man lol! u have not laffed so hard in month's lmmmmmaaaaaaooooo!

  • Your porting is too big. Anything beyond three 4" ports has sound equivalent to no reso head at all.

  • lol the homemade Powersonic head

  • remo powerstroke ftw, my bass sound like gold

  • muffling you bass drum with pillows and such destroys the drum, you pay for the tone of the bass drum, if you put a pillow in one you may as well buy the cheapest one you can find.. get a muffling ring or an actualy ev muffling pillow so you dont totally ruin your bassdrum

  • @dustyowl99 Some people like the dead sounds. I personally here woulda just used some thin blankets or towels. All that thick crap on the reso side totally kills the drum and makes it sound like someone going into cardiac arrest. But if this guy likes it, go for it. Iv seen guys that practially stuff their bass drums full of anything they can find, all the way to the top, and somehow, the drum still sounds amazing. There is no one way. but stuffing it doesnt work for this drum.

  • i love your sketchy set up

  • what the f'k happened to that pedal ?? :p

  • @beatboxstyler buahahahaha!ryt

  • i think it sounds best with the pillow but i personaly use a gold swetchirt with a moon jell and it sounds amazing!

  • Thats a huge ass port hole

  • press 3 for nothing inside

press 6 for traditional setup w/ rug

press 9 for traditional setup w/ pillow :)

  • what is the traditional set up?

  • hey can you answer my question? whats the difference between your traditional setup and full size pillow setup? thanks in advance

  • aquarian super kick 2 and Evans EQ3 with the porthole, no muffuling required

  • is the pillow touching the reso head?

  • dude you sound like a retard

  • rug

  • this is always a hard decision... if you want to play loud then put nothing in it- i always like it like that because thats how a bass is supposed to sound with all the power. but then again if you want to do a drum cover then it is very hard for it to sound good without mufling heads

  • And why those this video have so many views?? Lol

  • Man Just hit the damn drum

  • It sounds like a basketball being dribbled with nothing in it XD I vote for the rug.

  • I'm giving this guy props on creativity! I've never seen masking tape used as a form of muffling, not too bad. the only thing I would say is tune the batter head a tad bit up, its pretty much a dead head with no resonance. you'll still get that "clicky" sound you're after but with a bit more power.

  • traditional

  • get a new pedal

  • I would say, the one with nothing in it sounds deepest, and i like that... i would go with that one. Maybe use a smaller rug? cause the rug is better than the pillow for sure.

  • pillow diffenetly pillow

  • If you see a "kick drum video" made by someone who uses "duct tape" "masking tape" and a broken beater and a 12 inch hole in the head. I suggest moving on to another video.

  • @jordanjcm lmbo!

  • If you see a "kick drum video" made by someone who uses "duct tape" "masking tape" and a broken beater, I suggest moving on to another video.

  • Pillow

  • Pillow

  • The kick head looks like a home made version of a Remo Powersonic head with a piece of duct tape on the center xD

  • hi

  • hey

  • did you chop half your beater off

  • lmao nice beater

  • nice beater :)

  • what is wrong with u ur port holes waaaaaaayyyyyyyy to big

  • "take listen to all of them now"

  • BEATER??........ WHERE ARE YOUUU???

  • you have vainy hands

  • change that fking pedal!!

  • I want that beater you should try and loosen the batter head..

  • I want that beater

  • I lol'd when i saw your beater.

  • Dude this video is fricking awesome! I was amazed from start to finish. When I'm that high I'm way to lazy to put something like this together. Awesome job putting down the ho-hos, turning off family guy, getting off the couch and doing something constructive! You're a better man than i am..... Can you pass the ho-hos?

  • i like no muffling.

  • you stuffed up your bass drum

  • The pillow sounds the best i think

  • too much talking

  • Dam dude talk about handy man. if i didnt have the Evans Emad i think that i would do somthing similar to what you did there. did it take a while to put the rings of tape???

  • If you're playing with other people, the ringing of an empty bass drum (same applies for toms) isn't very noticeable among the other instruments, and your drums will sound different to you as the person playing them compared to the people in the audience. Gotta be careful when you decide to use muffling techniques.

  • Traditional setup sounds the best ;)

  • nothing in it. (:

  • that bass drum is tuned to high i think

  • Aquarian Superkick is much better :o

  • i really like the second

  • ur bass drum mallet is fucked up

  • dum rape

  • It sounds best with nothing at all inside. Just tune the batter head a bit lower and you're almost there! :)

  • that sounds dry it has no attack

  • this bass drum sounds like shit

  • You can't be serious! This is the worst bass drum setup I've ever seen or heard!

  • looks like you need a new pad, and a new bass drum head.... evans emad or gmad 22 inch $45 and looks better....

  • Awesome video!!!

Boyyy... I like the last one :3

    5/5

  • pillow tpwards the front bass drum head always sounds great

  • i already have a towel in there and im to lazy to put a pillow in there so fuck it

  • when i first started this vid, i was like "holy shit! his bass is gunna sound horrible" cuz it looks like shit but then when i herd it i was amazed cuz it sounded awesome! BTW i think the pillow sounds the best

    1. pillow

    2. nothing

    3. traditonal (i dont like it)

  • either none or the pillow! carpet sounds bad!!

  • nothin in there sounds best

  • anyone no how I could make my bass drum louder. I put muffling in the drum and it's sounds really good but I want the drum to sound louder and I dont want to use mikes.

  • @trainmandan05 you can hange your bass drum beater to a mor rigid one, or use the wrong side of the bater you already have if it has a plastic type back to it. a different head can also improve volume aswell as heel up technique

  • good work man. helps alot.

  • Nothing inside sounds the best. The other two are too dead...

  • pillow prob sounds the best

  • get the evans Emad head theyre the best with no struggles

  • True so true, but i personally say either the Emad 2 or the Powerstroke 4 as a bass drum head....2 ply heads give much more attack, and when tuned loosely, they give a nice defined punch...or, you know an Emperor head...any 2 ply head is nice

  • I think this should depend on what your doin with your kit. Like are you in a band? or do you just jam alone? If your jamming with other people i would use the first, its gonna make it threw the mix and your not going to hear that after ringing when instruments are playing with you. But if your jamming alone i would probably dampen it a bit.

I do stuff like this all the time when i am bored haha

    good video

  • oh, I do preform with some people every now and then, and i do play in a band, a bit of Zeppelin in it now haha, ut yeah most of the time I jam all alone, and I dont use muffling now, I actually tuned the drums like Bonham now, so I'm straight how i am now haha

  • first one sounds like a basketball

  • I just noticed that too LOL

  • pillow sounds good.

  • sounds good :) 5/5 liked the first one !

  • dude are you high? lol

  • Lol no, just bored

  • @redbullahh sounds like he's missing out on a sweet marajuana party

  • yo i need some advice.. i haven't tried muffling yet, but my kick drum, with nothing in it, resonates ALOT... like it sounds ridiculous, almost like a tom. What am i doing wrong? (it's basically a brand new set 3 or 4 days old)

  • Well, have you tuned it yet? I can show you videos on how to tune it, but before, I would actually like to say this: What kind of music do you play?

  • rock, and yes, i have tuned it, still sounds like ass. maybe not properly?

  • Well let me give some advice, when you play rock, bass drums usually have no tone(Unless you play Led Zeppelin)

SO actually, you would tune the batter head pretty loose, about like just above the wrinkles, to the lowest possible pitch. Then the resonant head would either be tight enough to resonate. After than, you would want to put something in there, like the examples I have used in the video, just don't over stuff it

  • ok, thanks

  • And one more thing, lol search in Bob Gatzen's videos, he will reply to you soon, and he is a pro, trust me, he has helped me with EVERYTHING......and also, if you want to spend a bit of cash, you can get a drumhead that reduces resonance, and control sustain, to where you won't have to put anything in your bass drum at all.

  • oops, and I almost forgot my manners,

your welcome, feel free to ask anymore, i won't bite haha, so have fun, keep on drumming- Daniel

  • Thank you for all your help! :)

I'll be sure to try that out.

  • Ah yes i almost forgot, I think that you would have to take the resonant head off, then tune the batter head as I said, then put whatever you like in there, THEN put the resonant head back on.

I almost forgot, you can also either cut, or melt a hole on the resonant drumhead, this can remove some of the resonance, and with a hole, you would be able to put stuff in and out of your bass drum, without having to take off the whole drumhead off.

  • very cool! i once had a drum set in 2003 as a christmas gift, but a year later it collapsed. the only remains of it are a snare drum

  • lol holy crap what happened?

  • i don't really know exactly, it was a crappy drum set

  • Ahh, I see heheh

  • Great idea for a video! My kicks are really weird right now. I took the front heads off and set a blanket against the batter below where the beater hits. It's really loud and punchy. I'm always open to new things, but I tend to not like any muffling with the front head on as it gets quiet.

  • hey thanks for the comment. And I do agree on about stuffing the bass drum up. I'd rather have a loud and open sounding bass drum.
