Its been a while, but I think the exhaust - slip on - was around $249. I also rejetted the carb, changed both sprockets. Made a big difference. It's now great for a bike that I can take on the street and light off road use. I have a kxf450 for the real off road riding.
@dvw108 what size is you're rear sprocket? I got a 15 tooth for the front but can't find anything smaller than the stock 42. Did the new pipe hurt you're gas mileage much?
@eman4756 ...I went the opposite way with gearing. I am running a 13 / 45. Its been a while since I did the carb and pipe work......if memory serves, it did drop the mpg a bit. For me, wasn't a big concern......never really calculated the mpg but a tank don't last as long as it did when it was all stock.
Not sure - I'd guess maybe 3 to 4 with the exhaust and carb work. I also removed some weight from the bike which helps quite a bit. I replaced the rear fender, removed some of the subframe and eliminated the rack and replaced all the lights. Probably 8 to 10 lbs lighter now. Guess I should post up a new video.
when you get your 250sf, do you mind telling me how it is? im interested in the bike, i was working with the dealer on a Yamaha WR250X, but it always seemed over priced to me. Or post a review video of it! it would be really helpful.
Sure thing. I've already rode a 2009 KLX250S with the dirt tires and I enjoyed it. It wasn't very quick, but from everything I have read, that motor is really stifled by the stock carb, exhaust and intake. Once you take care of those parts they really open up.
just got one 4 months ago. i love it. it does need the new exhaust intake and jet kit which adds about 30-40% more power. its a super fun bike to ride and gets too much attention around town. but so far ZERO complaints. i paid $4900 all in for it. with this economy dont let the dealers walk on you. its a buyers market.
you've got a good point with the economy, this bike seems great, its just that im inexperienced and dont wana be messing with things that i dont have to, the direct fuel injection of the yamaha seems pretty hassle free. But ill keep sleeping on it, not gona be storing it all winter, im just gona buy when the weather improves again, here in portland oregon it rains ALLL winter. But yea, thanks for the insight, and if u ever put up a vid, id love to see it btw!
Yeah, its a fun bike, really underpowered out of the box, have to do carb / exhaust / gearing work to open it up. Since thats done its like a different bike. I have a 450F also, there's no comparison, but the 250 is good for street and trail use.
i had a suzuki dr650se and just bought the klx 250sf... man thats a fun bike ! im missing a whole lotta power but im in the process of putting the twobros pipe with the fmf powerbomb headers. also i have to put the dynojet kit because its a must.. specially going from a 650 to a 250. painting the rims red and smoking the signal light looks sick ! ill post a video as soon as my little project is done so you guys hear it ! later
