Heard them at the Hi Tone Cafe, Memphis, Tennessee this past weekend. Absolutely mar-ve-lous.They ought to be in the movies. Pokey & members were also right friendly, personable individuals. Treasure my signed Pokey LaFarge poster too.
Pokey played Jools Holland's new year show here in the uk and you dont really get any higher respect or promotion than that. If jools champions you , you made it .Thats why Im here.
What a great sound. I love it that these guys can do something outside the box that reminds us that great music is still out there. Keep it up fellas!!
I wish mainstream music would just for once TRY to promote pokey and other great underground music. How do you think the public would react? I'd like to believe it would cause a massive shift in popular music similar to grunge in the early 90's. But there's a big part of me that thinks to many people are brainwashed by what they hear on the radio and couldn't grasp real music... Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Reply! I'm very interested to see what other people think!
It wld be a refreshing change of pace to hear something like Pokey or the Dirt Daubers, etc on mainstream radio, but I wld never know. I only listen to my iPod in the car or streaming radio like pandora or lastfm or Spotify...commercial radio wld kill this type of music, so it's better left underground!
@beLfism I wish they would also, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. One good thing is that these bands I like are still playing small venues, get a chance to meet them and be up front for the shows. Mainstream radio is not about talent, it's about sales. I think to many people are brainwashed on what's popular means it's good. Then again, a lot of people would like this if they heard it, and the problem is a lot of people don't know where to find good music.
@beLfism I think making underground music mainstream would cause them to sell out. Some music should just remain underground so they do not lose their quality
@beLfism Yes, and yes to anyone waiting for the tides to turn back to REAL music. I always want to express how I feel but you summed the whole unbalance and over drawing of modern day music. 20th Century rocks!
there are a shitload of awesum artists that get lots of love from true music lovers, but the mainstream public doesn't dare to try it
when they hear somethin like metal, punk, underground hiphop, or blues/jazz or whatever, they get scared, when they hear real instruments or technically awesum vocals, they go: Hey where is the eletronic beat and the autotune wtf is this =0
Its a shame, and I fear the music thats yet to come, but I'm just glad there are still real artists
@beLfism I see a lot of people like you, thinking it's a shame that such bands be unknown by an enormous majority. I actually think people have bad tastes in music because of the brainwashing you're talking about but I can't help to be happy about those bands being unknown because every bands I liked who then became famous turn into shit. Popularity make music become commercial, so if these bands stay unknown, they stay good and still can live of their music. Sorry for my English, I'm french.
@DrStrawfoot The Stones are overrated in my opinion. Dylan was a god, but these times are far away from now and I honestly don't know much famous artists now who really are as good as Dylan. An example: Modest Mouse whose music, in my opinion, is revolutionnary. They were on an independant label and when they sign at BMG and became famous they came out with We were dead before the ship even sank, and this album suck compared to what they used to do. There are exceptions, but not many.
This group has such a great sound. I love all of these groups reviving the historic music like the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Old Crow Medicine Show, etc, but I will have to say that Pokey Lafarge probably has the best sound, best musicianship.
Anyone know what park this was filmed in?
Fabulous video to go with a great song.

Anyone else notice the video being mad out of sync with the guitar for the solo's? :(
