I'm not a regular jazz listenner. But i must say that hearing this track on a french jazz radio station, i wrote down the name of Wynston Marsalis, i've discovered something amazing. Great music, wonderful musicians. True jazz.
This is one of my favorite tunes off the album. Kenny Kirkland is fantastic player. I wish that he, as well as all the great players that have left, us were still around!
@shorjas yeah, i don't really get the whole derision of this band based on the miles quintet influence. most of the modern groups are pretty much imitating this sound to some extent, even more than these guys. the miles band IS post-bop, and the semi-free aesthetic is the dominant force in real modern jazz.
Man, Wynton was so killin'. THe best trumpet player who ever lived at that point in time. I saw him play with Blakey and with Rollins and with his own group all around then and you saw trumpet players with their mouths wide open in disbelief at the things he could do. So what happened? ....
