  • Yes, Uke does a good breakfall but it is sloppy to use your hands.May I ask their respective ranking?

  • I hate how the tori often looses his balance when he throws looks like he has no control

  • why is Uki using his hands on the mat to get up??? very slopy

  • its plain old gay

  • Yes, it has to be more than 3 mts. or that guy is too thin.. I have a 3 mtrs one and it's a normal size compared with me.. I'm not that tall or fat :S

  • @ hkdharmon:

    No dumbass!!!

the 3 steps are to prepare a throw:

    1. Attack

    2. Tori takes the intitiative and pulls uke towards him. This is the perparing step

    3. Throw

  • surkeaa!Kannattaisi opetella kata kunnolla, varsinkin jos sen laittaa kaikkien nähtäväksi.Melkein kaikki meni väärin.Taitaa ulkomailla olla DANIT joutoukkoja.

  • Ukes attacks are too lazy. I would not bother to throw an uke whose strikes look like he's rising his hand saying hello. And it's the tori's job to make th throws. Uke attacks and tori throws, but UKE MUST NOT JUMP. If he has to jump, there is something wrong with the throwing technique!

  • this is just a FORM.

  • Yes, but judo is REAL, isn't it? Where is the principle of maximum efficiency? Can you see it in this kata?

  • Forms aren't for showing off. They're for practice. If your kata are lazy, then your martial arts will suffer.

  • yes i see it, the throws appear effortless, that's maximum efficiency with minimal effort

  • Hmm, now when I look at this kata again, it is not that bad than I thought a few years ago. I've learned that there are two different schools: one teaching that there must be "umpf" in the kata, and one that tells that kata must be like a silent river, where nothing breaks the surface of the water. This kata, of course, had some unnecessary (and even funny:) manoeuvers, but otherwise it's quite OK. Just a little bit of filing here and there. Uke must learn to strike properly.

  • IMO this isnt the purpose of kata. kata is "form" rather than "function" so to speak. learning to strike properly is important of course but better left outside kata, unfortunately, strikes are not allowed in judo randori. kata is what it is, the link to the traditions of the past.

  • Kata is the old recording format (before DVD or even VHS) to save the art for the future generations. What comes to the striking, it must be learned to allow the tori to perform his/her techniques properly. Every technique works on special occasions only.

  • of course you're right, but imo this is not the purpose of kata..it is to show base line mechanics of any given technique, so it can be concentrated on, no variations, no "what ifs" etc. it allows you to focus solely on the technique you are performing. later on you get into all the other stuff.

  • wow hes getting his botty kicked WOW

  • Check out Fedor, Trigg, Yoshida, Parisyan fights. All fighters who've cross trained in Judo. Nobody lets anybody do anything in a fight, you simply can't resist your opponent. Like when you get tagged with a punch.

  • this is close enough to the proper way of the nage no kata, muy thai is shit, guns are shit.

    judo is the gentle way

and was taught for self defence.

    its also a sport

respect it. as if you'd want us repsecting the martial art that you do.

  • What are you talking about? Human body itself is a weapon. There is no such thing as YOUR martial art or MY martial art. We do not have different styles of fighting. You use feet, I use feet; you use hands, I use hands. The one who can express oneself the best is what determines.

  • lol ok Bruce ...we all have a different style of doing things, even within the same art/style/system/method...whatever.

  • You are useless.. I train in Muay Thai, JKD, BJJ, CSW, Kali and Escrima, and I have been involved in the martial arts for 26 years, probably longer than you have been alive..

These Kata train spacial awareness, body control, ukemi, as well as general knowledge of the mechanics of each throw..

In the street, I have a limitless well to choose from because I appreciate EVERY art for what it offers..

Grow up and think before you speak..

  • the passive partner often turns his back to the josekis when he stands up! but its a well done kata anyway!

  • looked like a dance

  • I think you are referring to the 3 steps before many techniques. That is intended as a way to insure that you have a clear place to fall. If you can't take the 3 steps because of an obstacle, it is obvious that you are going to fall on something and might get hurt.

  • this is weird... looks like theyre dancing

  • They are, in a way. He's being graded for technique. It looks fake but technique has to come bfore proper use in a match against a skilled oponent. When used successfully against a skilled oponen, it's a thing of beuaty. When used successfully against a non-trained in a fight, it's devestating. The simple foot sweeps can be very effective.

  • sorry.."beauty"...hit post before spell check. That "dance" allows you to practice/gain spacial awareness of your oponents body and when to throw/sweep.

  • This is a demonstration. Anyone random person would not have a change versus someone that is well trained in Judo.

  • Very nice, Only complaint is...First Uki Goshi looks too fake, as if Uke "jumped far too early".

  • looks like the old Kano videos

  • good technique, good etiquette!

  • wow! crazy kata!
