I was watchin' this with mah dad a couple a weeks ago an' he said that Hymie was gay. Hmm maybeh so. Anyhow I loved this episode!

Hymie was certainly not gay! He falls in love with a female robot in season two's episode "It Takes One to Know One". He is also seen 'noticing' females quite often. Perhaps your father was mixing him up with a TV character from a different show or something. Anyway, glad you like this episode... we think it's pretty funny too! =)

I dunno. Just because he's shown as having interest in women doesn't mean he's not gay. I don't think my dad mixed anyone up. Hymie is one of his favorite characters.

Frankly, I would consider the fact that Hymie never shows romantic interest in men, but definite interest in women to be a strong indicator that he was not gay. Added to that is of course, the political climate of the 60's. It has never been mentioned by the writers or creators and no doubt they would have been bragging about being one of the first shows to sport a gay character if that had been the case. Perhaps we shall have to agree to disagree.
