  • 1:17 Awesome !

  • AWESOME from awesomeland !!!

Thanks Steve, and please, don't bother answering to some ignorant fuck...

    Hug bro', you're da man.

  • Always great to see stuff like this Steve, thanks for posting!

  • Two things here:

    Firstly, thanks. This is awesome!!

Secondly, it's annoying that you "Vinnie heads" over at HOD - and obviously particularly you Steve - hold on to material for private gain in trade, particularly considering just how much Vinnie stuff you've obtained from dimeadozen and other such sites that you are members of... Stuff you never would have been able to listen to if it were not for the giving, sharing attitude of others... Stop being such hoarders and get this stuff out there!

  • @tbd3874 Yes that's right. I'm the guy you should bag on for NOT sharing things over the last (oh I don't know) 10 years since houseofdrumming was started.

What was I thinking being so. Selfish.

  • This is some dark magic shit from Vinnie. Never have I seen such creativity. For me his sound lies somewhere between Jones, Williams and Gadd.

  • If you're gonna shit on the sax solo..... THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!!!

How to play drums and not play drums at the same time...

    Awesome....

  • over playing much? doesnt even groove sounds shit

  • ...and this would be an interesting test. Challenge for Mike Johnston & fanboys: record a video playing along to 'Just Groove Me' by Oz Noy.

Let's see if Dave Weckl comments on that video...?

  • It's been a few years since Vinnie ate Gary Chaffee's books for breakfast. I'm sure he's looking to brush up on his linear drumming, so we should suggest Mike Johnston as someone who can help Vinnie. Not sure if VC would cope with the groundbreaking ideas in Johnston's new book though. Apparently Vinnie isn't very good at sight reading.

Maybe Mike Johnston can display some of his revolutionary chops the next time he tours with Herbie Hancock. TheLineDrummer will have front row seats no doubt!

  • @jonnykk1 About a year ago, Mike put out a linear video and actually said that Chaffee was not a key name in linear drumming, and that all he really did was put notes together where nothing hit at the same time. He said this at the EXACT same time he was promoting his own linear book as "groundbreaking" and "the first of its kind". So no wonder these kids go around screaming how Mike is a drum god. He takes advantage of young and inexperienced players' ignorance, all to make a buck.

  • Colaiuta is the sickest!

  • 'Revolutionized linear drumming', LOL.

  • Yeah, there's some impressive ignorance in the comments.

  • @HODSteve Yeah, forgive me.. but who the fuck is Mike Johnston?

  • @paulo101 I was wondering the same thing.

  • spettacolo !

  • 1:17 >>> The build up of tension and the release is just INCREDIBLE.

    Vinnie is THE man!

  • The master at work. Nice stuff.

  • Yeah, cause Mike Johnstone is the guy that Sting and Herbie Hancock want to play on tour with them and he's playing on every major album session while Vinnie is doing clinics in Sam Ash pimping them on YT, saying "Hey dude, RSVP me on Facebook so I know if three or four people are coming to my clinic, we might need to get two cans of Pepsi!"

Oh, hang on, I may have got that wrong way round!

  • @andiedrums1 Funny you should mention being in demand. See the new issue of Drum magazine? Mike is in it, and mentions that hes made a million dollars from teaching. What have YOU made? As far as his clinics, he has to get reservations because the stores cant hold the number of people who show up. So again, you can go back to watching Steve Holmes on broken cymbals in his basement designing video games, while MJ is out there taking a chance and changing the world.

  • @thelinedrummer is it just me or does that seem wrong. playing drums isnt about playing a clinic and showing your licks isnt it about what vinnie is doing in this clip playing music and interacting with musicians not playing with backing tracks.

  • @andiedrums1 hahahahah i started reading this comment and being like this dude is so wrong then i got to the end and laughed :)

  • lol @ thelinedrummer.. are you his rep or agent?...lol

fyi...VC, Weckl and GADD still are and will always still be...

  • so many funny comments on this page!

    love it

  • i just don't get how anyone brain works like that...his phrasing and time is unreal...plus complete command of the drum set...wtf?... I do however enjoy seeing all of these new and upcoming drummers... I dont practice anymore...I just gig groove/pocket stuff..top 40/cover stuff in Toronto.. I have no need to try or compete with this stuff..I just enjoy the posts... what a great and fun instrument to play!!

  • I rarely make it through an entire Colaiuta video... halfway through I normally just shake my head and go practice for a while. Thanks for posting!

  • @thelinedrummer Mike is a great player but calling one of the most influential drummers of all time a "Dinosaur" proves that you have no idea what your talking about. You seem to forget or may not even know how many recordings VC has been on..before youtube and such. Check out Joes Garage or Secrets...to this day that stuff is still light years ahead..and he's still setting the bar. There is plenty of room for the young guys out there but some guys just cant be touched.

  • @AudioVisualOneGuy I was just about to leave a really sarcastic comment, but I deleted it and decided not to feed the trolls. Lets just enjoy this video; Vinnie is the best, period.

  • Thankkksssss !!

  • @thelinedrummer dude, it's colaiuta... but yea mike is awesome too...

  • @allmetaliswelcome Yeah, and Colaiuta is good, but Mike is pushing the boundries.

  • @thelinedrummer this man has influenced a LOT of people. including mike. but let's not fight over this

  • @thelinedrummer pushing the boundaries of what, how many instructional videos one person can put up on the internet? get real dude.

  • @inaglasscage When your guy Steve has millions of views on his videos, then we can talk. In the meantime, let Mike do his thing. He covered Colaiuta fills years ago; this stuff is nothing new, and you wonder why Mike ignores you Steve Holmes sheep...

  • boundaries?

drumming/music is more than linear phrasing between your hands and feet...Mike:)

  • @sajawhite yeah, well, Mike has world famous drummers waiting to take lessons from him, so that speaks for itself. Mike wrote a BOOK on linear drumming, wheres your book? Wheres your videos with millions of views? You're a bunch of Vinnie and Weckl wanna be's, while Mike has become what Vinnie and Weckl were.

  • Yeah, man. That's using the WHOLE kit in a super, musical way.

  • Thanks for posting Steve.

  • .....oooohhh too much, poor Tavaglione!
