I wouldn't live anywhere BUT Hawai'i! There are places the tourists don't know about and there is country! I also love people so I love dealing with tourists but not all the time. I LOVE the weather! I couldn't ever live in Washington. IMHO, it's terrible! The people of Hawai'i are the friendliest, most accepting, open and loving people you'll ever meet! There's always something to do. I lived there 7 years. I always had excellent wireless internet. it's not hot there, it's actually consistent and will stay 80 degrees everyday, the coldest it gets is 60. the only time I've came across tourists is when I went to tourists spots...to avoid this just don't go there ha.

I've lived in hawaii all my life as a local and being one, I can say I hate living here and whenever I travel to other asian countries or the mainland states, it is so much better. Heres two good reasons why:
1. It just gets boring: Trust me after several months you'll be bored out of shit.
2. Filipinos: The islands especially oahu are infested with flips. They are irritating and think they are so great.
Hawaii may not be for you or for everybody. Some of your statements are wrong. Not all of Hawaii is touristy. Hawaii is just not one island. There are several main islands. They are Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Big Island, Molokai, and Lanai. You need to check your sources before making your statements.
2. we have 4g moble phones and out local Time-Warner has blazing fast cable modem net service. Tourists do indeed pay the bills around here but I like tourists. They usually come here for a good time and a nice experience so they are pleasant to have around.

I totally agree with you. My wife and I moved from the mainland to Hawai'i about 2 years ago. We live a very simple and quiet life, and have found the locals to be freidnly and helpful. On the other side, I have met many people(mainly located in the wealthy areas) who has a Southern California attitude about things, which has created a lot of animosity among the people. If you are friendly, kind and patient towards others, you will find people very warm here.

You need to check your sources and not just your opinion on your short vacation.
1) Hawaii just don't have touristy places. There are military bases, agriculture, real estate, etc.
2) If you don't like water then don't go in the water. Not everyone in Hawaii do water sports.
3) Check your map. Hawaii is not just one island. It has several islands. They are Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Hawaii, and other smaller islands.
4) Broad band is constarly improving
5) It's not that hot

I think its just a different preference of lifestyle, I am also a geek of sorts, But if I lived there in such a beautiful place, why the hell would I be sitting in front of the computer or TV? lets see.. the beach, ocean, swimming, cycling, walking, just being outside in amazing weather. I wouldn't live anywhere BUT Hawai'i! There are places the tourists don't know about and there is country! I also love people so I love dealing with tourists but not all the time. I LOVE the weather! I couldn't ever live in Washington. IMHO, it's terrible! The people of Hawai'i are the friendliest, most accepting, open and loving people you'll ever meet! There's always something to do. I don't feel isolated and I'm not afraid of hurricanes. I'm out of space. . .

I lived there 7 years. I always had excellent wireless internet. it's not hot there, it's actually consistent and will stay 80 degrees everyday, the coldest it gets is 60. the only time I've came across tourists is when I went to tourists spots...to avoid this just don't go there ha.

@iCraacked Prepare Handbook is not one person, but I can answer. The guy who responded to your post resided on the Kona side of the big island while doing research into police corruption. The FBI sent in consultants when it was found that rape and hate crimes were not being prosecuted and that the police reports were being hidden. His work put many cops in fed prison. As to him being ignorant he has a PHD and a masters degree. I myself have only vacationed there, the hawaiians were kinda lame.

But giving back rent would be the just thing that the US could do, they wont though, I think they will eventually steal the Ceded Lands (And FYI the Ceded Lands are 95% unoccupied, and the 5% occupied land is being rented by the state and going into the Hawaiian welfare program AKA OHA)

I've lived in hawaii all my life as a local and being one, I can say I hate living here and whenever I travel to other asian countries or the mainland states, it is so much better. Heres two good reasons why:
1. It just gets boring: Trust me after several months you'll be bored out of shit.
2. Filipinos: The islands especially oahu are infested with flips. They are irritating and think they are so great.

I live in Hawaii...born and raised here. Personally I like it and maybe its because its what I'm used to. But I can relate to some of your points. It IS an island in the middle of nowhere and while im not as paranoid as you about emergency evacuation, I'm not fond of the limited options of entertainment. Where you are, you could get bored and drive litterally to disney world if you so choosed. I'll have to inform you though that we have great bb options.

Most the reasons you listed were things you can adjust too. I'm from the Pacific Northwest, I loved it but I have found a love for Hawaii as well. When people feel like taking their time with something when they are working, they will. So Hawaii isn't a fast pace kind of place. But a great thing about Hawaii is the family value, family is close and big BBQs are common. Fresh produce and naps on the beach. You can drive with worrying about getting in an accident due to weather problems.

I totally agree with you. My wife and I moved from the mainland to Hawai'i about 2 years ago. We live a very simple and quiet life, and have found the locals to be freidnly and helpful. On the other side, I have met many people(mainly located in the wealthy areas) who has a Southern California attitude about things, which has created a lot of animosity among the people. If you are friendly, kind and patient towards others, you will find people very warm here.
