I know stereotypes are hard to get rid of , and Carmen indeed was led to sing and dance this kind of music, in the USA. Those musical performances had nothing to do with Brazil, or samba, or whatever else she used to do in Brazil, till the end of 1930´s . She was pasteurized into some Mexican-Argentinian-latin-Spanish speaking freaking show, completely absurd for Brazilian taste and culture. Even so, she was a magnificent artist and, in spite of those absurds, she prevaled over a false image.
Thanks for this Basil. Lovely woman she was, very good singer and actress. Known all over the world after leaving Brasil to Hollywood, after which a big success. Hers is a sad story though. Portuguese-born indeed, but for us one or the other is practically the same. We love Brasil and its people. And its fabulous music
salsa type of seductivity. She loved big fruity hats and turbons` her dancing style was another vibrent talent she was known for. Plus she appeared in a number of films especially during the 1940,s. We love you Carmen.

Who ever was her costume designer back then deserves a lot of praise.
They gave her that unique style that she was known for and even today people know who Carmen Miranda was.
