actually the Portuguese only controlled the slave trade in its inception because they were the only ones that had ships that could round the cape of Good Hope. Other European nations got involved because of the significant profits slave trading generated. The idea that only a small part of the city was affected by Katrina is delusional. In fact the whole region was devastated. One of the frustrations with the coverage was that it basically ignored the surrounding communities and towns. It focused almost exclusively on NO and especially the football stadium and the civic center downtown. If you only know Katrina from a few snippets of TV footage, you don't have the whole picture.

One of the reasons the death toll is so high is beacause many persons moved to Port Ayu Prince to find work, because their previous occupations as peasant farmers were no longer viable. This happened because of dumping of cheaper subsidized food from the USA. Aristide had to agree to this in order to receive US Aid. I suppose truth is racist

Some purchasing of slaves was done this is true, however most slaves were obtained as a result of raids carried out by gun toting Europeans. But I guess youre point is that African rulers helped too, That's true in a minor way, slavery is reprehensible and no amount of spin will change that.
And re, discovery of USA, you cannot discover something that has already been discovered by someone else.

actually the Portuguese only controlled the slave trade in its inception because they were the only ones that had ships that could round the cape of Good Hope. Other European nations got involved because of the significant profits slave trading generated. Slave traders were the lowest of the low even for European societies of that period and they did raid villages, murder, rape etc. They were worse than the Nazis and the transatlantic slave trade was worse than the Holocaust.

What's your point? Second-hand bought slaves do not negate the slave owner's wrongdoing. It is still a crime against humanity.
If your friend shoots a cop, that doesn't give you the right to shoot a cop. Similarly, just because Africans enslaved Africans, that doesn't give you the right to enslave Africans.
Both slavers are guilty. The first's guilt doesn't negate the second's guilt.

Journos and photographers and camera people get burned out very quickly, and some end up with PTSD, on meds and in therapy after years of seeing more horror in real life than we watching it on TV can imagine.
Sure, some journos fake the old tear, but that sort of thing is very poorly regarded in media circles, otherwise they'd all be bawling, at the smallest tragedy. Yet you rely on media to bring you the news.

The idea that only a small part of the city was affected by Katrina is delusional. In fact the whole region was devastated. One of the frustrations with the coverage was that it basically ignored the surrounding communities and towns. It focused almost exclusively on NO and especially the football stadium and the civic center downtown. If you only know Katrina from a few snippets of TV footage, you don't have the whole picture.
