MrVicest it would be worse landing a plane without any gear. If the a320 landed without a landing gear. Smoke would fill in the cockpit because of the friction.
Stephanosh are you real ? I know thats the whole point of the video !! But I wonder what caused the wheels to turn 90 degrees ? They do not rotate to go inside the plane on take off.
i remember watching this on news as it was happening. the plane was circling for a long time burning off fuel. what the hell do they tell the passengers so they don't end up freaking out and going nuts inside the cabin?? "we might crash and all die in a huge fireball, but just stay calm...no big deal"
i took this same exact plane home on a flight from houston (KHOU) to new york (KJFK) it was named "canyon blue" and i figured it was somehow familiar but i never realized until i watched this video again
They trained the pilot to fly---too bad they didn't tell him to straighten the steering wheel before landing. Obviously, this was NOT Capt. Sully of USAir!

You are about to be schooled. The nose wheel is NOT turned that way to facilitate slowing---it has to do with stowage when retracted. More school: do not call people "dumbass", for that makes you sound very, very small. Consider yourself schooled by Hoggdawn!

Well, I have to tell you the truth---sometimes I get bored and write things that I hope people will find humorous---my fault---sorry. This pilot was very good---very cool under pressure---kept weight off the nosegear as long as possible to minimize damage in case of collapse. Have a good day!
any airline pilot could do that. this is what they practice for. That was probably the only exciting day that pilot has ever had flying. that's crazy though to use minimal brakes and pulling back. it's airbus though that's a stupid joystick!
dude, i was on the plane and let me tell you that after we landed there was a crazy smell in the cabin- almost like a wet dog thing...people must secrete some chemical when high stress is involved cause that plane stank- and yes, alot of people used the toilet lol
i was there when that happened that is at LAX airport i will never forget that day the whole town was there watching from a hillside that thing went on for a couple hours circling above before landing. btw i used to live in el segundo the town right next to LAX
Is this all you do? You look through pages of comments on youtube just so you can reply to one that you don't like? You must really no life. Here's a thought, get out of your mom's basement, land a decent ,job, get laid, then you can comeback to youtube. Because honestly, looking back on pages of comments just so you can reply to them isn't a wise career path. Who knows, maybe it is for the person for your intellectual level. IQ of 33 I'm Guessing?
As I recall, I'm entitled to free speech. I'm entitled to say what I want. I'm entitled to opinions. And my opinion is, jet blue isn't that great of an airline. If you don't like it, does it really matter? But hey, its your opinion on my opinion. Its not an opinion that I agree with, but at least I'm not going off on someone for it. And I don't need to know things about planes to have opinions on airlines. Thats like needing a musical education to have an opinion on music.
Its obvious that the sun isnt directly above the god damn airplane, which is why you arent seeing a shadow below it. If you look towards the end of the video, you can clearly see the shadow of the aircraft. This was posted all over the news on September 21st 2005. SNL did a parody of the situation to boot.
The pilots wanted the nose in the air for as long as possible in order to minimize damage. Using the reverse thrusters could of exacerbated the situation
Why is everyone saying Boeing is a lot worse? They're state of the art aircrafts, they've been around since the 50s. Airbus isn't even that old, but their both good in their own way. I can't wait till they release the B787's.
phobal if the steering angel is pushed beyond maximun the flight is delayed or ship changed because the entire nose gear assembly has to be inspected for damage
Once in Brazil a 707 nose fell off (believe it or not), so foam was put in the middle of the runway and the pilot landed on his mains and eased the nose in the foam... And THAT was a great landing...
during pushback, a bar is connected from the pushback tractor to the nose gear. to turn the aircraft into the right position. this is completely in the power of the person driving the tractor. you can only go so far (hence the 'maximum steering angle'). someone pushing back exceeded the maximum steering angle; they pushed the nose gear with the bar connected beyond the maximum steering angle. that's my guess
i think the actual cause of this one was a faulty sensor caused by moisture on a cannon plug. Boeing birds nose gears all have cam locks, so the gear is mechanically forced straight when extended, and 90 degrees retracted, the airbus gear is electric, so if it goes out, there's no back up system

saw this live, notice how the sparks get really big every time they go over the painted lines on the run way. wonder if theres a flamable chem. in the paint mix.
I think it could be one of two things, either A)maybe some sort of phosphorous-based chemical to brighten the white up? or B)glass beads mixed in with the paint hitting the metal in the landing gear and causing extra friction on top of that which is found on regular concrete. (all guesses, mind you)
lol, thats always funny when we ssee kids like you try to make explanations on things like that.. when we read you, we are happy that specialists of aeronautics are not randomly hired lol

The nose gear pivots so that the tires lay flat inside the fuselage when the whole truck is retracted. The wheel takes up less space this way.
