I love the film footage that Dick Clark showed on his anniversary shows of the kids dancing the chalypso to this fun song. I wish Dick Clark woud release DVD's of American Bandstand from the Philadelphia years 1957 - 1963 and The Saturday Night Beechnut Show from 1958 -1960. Is there anyone else besides me that would love to see those old shows?
Songs mentioned or alluded to in "La Dee Dah": "My Special Angel", "Be Bop Baby", "Little Bitty Pretty One" ("pet"), "You Send Me", "Lotta Lovin'", "Lips Of Wine", "Just Born", "Silhouettes". They also mentioned many recent hit titles in "Lucky Ladybug", making them the specialists in that.
Ditto ! Would love to hear the original "Lucky Ladybug". My sister, cousin and I used to dance like crazy little fools to this song. We were in Catholic elementary school at the time and thought we were totally wild doing the ladybug thing !!
I LOVED Lucky Ladybug!! I recently did a cover version of Lucky Ladybug with a 7 year old and 6 year old in September 2007. If you want to look it up, it's under "Four Hares Lucky Ladybug". We put quite a bit of money into recording this song, and I hope you find it interesting. Just thought it was interesting to see what kids would sound like doing the song. I hoped maybe it might have been a hit, but nothing happened, which was sort of what I expected. Anyway, enjoy!
Ooooooooh, the tale I could tell about an incident that happened to me, a next door neighbour and my Aunt Maureen from Red Hook Brooklyn while playing checkers in our back yard next to the pool all while "LUCKY LADYBUG" was playing on the transistor radio! Pick me a winner, Paulie!
If that damn Dick Clark Productions would stop removing any American Bandstand videos from here once they are uploaded, I could post a clip of the kids dancing to this song from the 50's.
Thanks for your comment. I have had to remove some songs myself because of copyright laws. What I do not understand is, some of THIS stuff you RARELY hear on the radio anymore and by chance if someone hears a song they really like or brings back a lot of memories they might try to find the CD or on vinyl. But I guess my way of thinking is wrong and the people that own the copyrights do not need to sell any more songs. (Just my opinion).
Tom...you're just playing the songs, not selling them. I don't see why you feel that you violating copyright laws. Dick clarl Corp. is nothing more than company led by money hungry, greedy people...just like the others.
Why don't the holders of copyrights on songs get it. YouTube is fast becoming the ONLY place you can hear these old songs, as "oldies" stations are increasingly retreating into playing only 60s, 70s and 80s, or even increasingly only 70s and 80s tunes!
this is honestly the greatest thing any person could do for this music. Now it is recorded near, eternally for humanity, whereas otherwise next years flood could have destroyed it forever on those sweet 45's.
There is a clip from an old Dec. 18 1957 Bandstand footage showing the kids dancing the Chalypso to "Lah Dee Dah" in it's entiety. It shows up on Ebay once in a while. Just look up "American Bandstand (VHS or DVD) 1957."

That's the key. You're just playing the songs, not for commercial purposes, and not selling them, so what's being violated? I don't get it.
