CGI laziness? Do you know how much work goes into making CGI characters/creatures, including the concept art that has to be drawn, and several other things that have to be done before you get the finished product.

Sure, its not as labor intensive as costumes, and most CGI doesn't look quite as real, but its certainly not a lazy endeavor to make CGI.

I think what he means is that most film makers just quickly crap out cheap CGI these days because it's easier than making good effects.

Before CGI was viable enough to be used by everyone in film, it would be hard to crap out bad costume designs and makeup.... well, not really, but back in the day, people took more care with costume and makeup than they do with CGI now, which is used and abused heavily.
