  • TAP...TAP...TAP....TAP....TAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAP

  • how do those package delivery people keep finding you, you're in a forest!

  • There is one man out there who has absolutely no heart (talking about the dislike)

  • You appear to have made an automatic rowing machine.

  • I'm watching these in order, been watching since post 1, but I was wondering, what's w the wrist chains?

  • Comment removed

  • @dlm04e Maybe he's using them as extra arm protection when cutting metals and stuff?

  • @dlm04e He started wearing them as an incentive to finish the road. Then he just carried on wearing them with the Chain mail to get more of a work out while doing everyday things

  • what exactly is this robot supposed to do? sorry i missed some episodes

  • IT'S ALIVEEEEEEEE---

    Partly.

  • I keep worrying about those holes in your roof :-(

  • If you were a frog, wouldn't you want to check out the giant robot being built next to your home?

    I THINK SO!

  • WOW

  • Why the chains on the ur wrists?

  • Weight training

  • that would be for make benefit awesomeness.

  • Im guessing its for protection. if theres anywhere you dont wanna cut yourself its there.

  • you are a genius

  • IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!!! kinda.... lookin really neat now. :D

  • Sweet :) finaly it starts getting the right shape!

btw... are you still planning for that trip to sweden?

  • Guess... you gonna need an inverter....

  • can the robot turn?

  • yes it can, it somehow automatically walks the way it's facing... I dunno all the technical stuff, but Jaimie does.

  • annnnnnnnnnnnd then i watched the rest of the video. very cool!

  • thats what we are all talking about!

    Yeah, Giant Robot!

  • your a mad genius man. i subscribed to your channel forever ago, and at first i had truble visualizing the robot, but now im starting to see it come together.

  • Hi Jaimie. Where will the battery bank be located? How many volts in total?

  • Great scott! It moves! I'm just curious, how will it turn? Cause all the legs move in synch. Is there like a switch/ some mechanism that changes the type of movement to turn left/right?

  • The drive is located one a turnable base ontop of the central body , when it turns it changes the swiveling motion of the legs attached to it resulting in the unit moving in a diferent direction.

And in earlier videos he told us that he'll have like a stearing-wheel ontop in order to turn :B

Also , not all legs move in sync , 3 of them are move up while one of them(the one that's smaller) moves down , so he's probably done with the 2 other legs in the next video :)

  • Okay, you rock, look at how far you have gotten! i love your manner, funny yet smart, a hard worker, creative.....sexy!

  • very nice, but, where would you ride?

  • I have watched this from the very beginning, and now when I can see the actual movement I start realising how cool it really is!

  • yay its working! sorta . . . that sound is scary . . . friction will tear your thingy apart . . . oil it up!

  • Haha, very nice man. Great to see you have come so far! Plus I bet it's way cool not having to bum it in someone's basement workshop ;)

  • If you make a giant robot t-shirt you should put it up for sale on some website and make some profit. I know I would totally buy one, and that can be a nice way for us regular shmoes to contribute!

  • agreed

  • oyl shit! So awesome!

  • wait... your little robot has six legs... i only see 4 here? or are you going to add more?

  • Woooow!

  • definitely looks like all your hard work is paying off, have u ever had to re-do something on the robot because the 1st sketch or oart didnt work out?

  • or *part* didnt work out? sorry

  • FANTASTIC!

  • This thing is really starting to look like something. I can hardly wait to see it go! Keep it up, the world is waiting.

Are you planning on riding on that? How big is the motor?

One more thought, if enough people are inspired by this, perhaps there will someday be a competition. Maybe like ballebots, or maybe something less destructive.

  • Yeah, so when will you finish the saw mill? I wanna see atleast an update on it Jaimie!

  • You are the man Jamie. This thing is really shaping up nicely. You should build a little compartment in the robot so that frog can ride along with you. Thanks for the really frequent updates this month, it's awesome!

  • Oh dude, this is coming along quite well now, AWESOME.

Seeing this thing walk would be amazing.

Hopefully no legs snap or anything, that wouldn't be fun after all that effort.

I'm sure it would survive though, doesn't look that heavy, for the pipes that is lol

  • I'm not worried about the legs snapping.... at least not compared to how much I'm worried about some of thos other parts snapping! repairs will be annoying.

  • Ooo! You should have 2 different T-Shirts. One for contributors and one for fundraising. Id buy both lol :P Im hoping ill be able to visit and help out again within the next 2 or 3 months!

  • Sweet! You should be able to see it walk for real then. :-)

    Ya... I'm thinking about t-shirt designs. :-)

  • My g/f is an artist and totally wants to design a giant robot t-shirt for you

  • oh, no way! Thats cool. uhh... tell her to e-mail me. :-) Oh... my regular e-mail is better. ...the one on my website. Youtube's email system is a bit of a mess.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss amazing! its becoming alive!!! congrats!

  • ya... no celebrations yet! ha ha

  • YEAH! :D :D thats badass

  • thanks!

  • Wow... It's been such a long time and it's finally coming together.. Major Win.

  • ya.... its going really fast now. ...cept I ran out of argon. argh! need more to weld.

  • Yes, give t-shirts away to those who donate and....

SELL t-shirts to those who want them to pay for more robot parts!!! (I'd buy one.)

oh, and the robot is looking radical!

  • Ya, thats exactly what I was thinking. :-)

  • Dude, this is just too cool

  • thanks. heh heh. Hey, i just saw you on that other site.

  • Yep, cool to see you over there too.

  • what happended to the building u made out of the trees?

  • Nothingl Its still there. ...waiting to be finished.

  • im looking forward to see it finished! :D

  • ya, me too. :-)

  • I'm a little concerned about the acrylic hinge thingies. Will they really be strong enough?

  • They're polycarbonate. ...bullet proof glass. Really strong stuff.

  • Hey dude. I love watching your videos, I check for updates regularly. Wish I could help in some way, but, unfortunately engineering isn't one of my strong points. So I'll just say, keep up the good work! This is pretty damned interesting stuff.

  • just subscribe then u wont have to check for updates!

  • Engineering isn't one of your strong points? Hmm.... how bout a million bucks. ha ha.

Thanks. I'm hoping it'll be walking soon.

  • Coool... i cant understand why the motor would be powerfull enough and the legs and stuff.. but im no technician so i hope everything will work out in the end which is near!

  • umm.... maybe it'll make more sense when its done.

  • Looks like a giant octopus so far 0 _ o

  • ya. its all goofy right now. ha ha

  • I still don't get how it changes directions

  • like this

    watch?v=FpOwONezb3c

  • umm... maybe it'll be clearer when its done.

  • you have been busy lately!

  • yyyep! now I'm busy getting argon. or should I say... ARGH-Gone!

  • you sir, are an inspiration

  • well, thank you. :-)

  • I wanna be one of the first to ride it

    other than you of course

    xD

  • err.... you can ride it first. You'll have to sign a suicide mission form!

  • In blood!

  • DUDE! i actually cant wait to see a test run! you've done a fantastic job! major congrats!

  • thanks! I'm just hoping nothing breaks. ....but something probably will. I'm preppared for repairs and improvements, though

  • Kudos to you Jamie your are the epitome of DIY really means, and though I am a tool user purist, and somethings (in the robot build) make me cringe I never look away, by the way...how is the taig lathe working out? If you need anything else let me know. Now where's my T-shirt? LMAO...J/K...may I impart an idea of a shirt design? I may even be speaking for everyone else here (not on my design but individual design ideas from your fans)

  • Great idea! I wanna design one! I wanna design one!

  • ok, design one!

  • As for t-shirt design use a rough sketch of the original smaller robot, as though set in the back round and a same rough drawing of the larger robot in the foreground and almost taking up the low left hand sid of the shirt with JMEMantzel situated vertically against an emboldened GIANT ROBOT BUILD and a "sequel shirt of the same design but a drawing of the finished [larger] robot and the word completed acroos the bottom bold words, I don't know how to draw in programs so I'll try to sketch it.

  • Aw, dude. You'll totally get a t-shirt first. :-)

The lathe is cool. I'm waiting to play with it, though... until I get the robot done. I need to stick a motor on it too. ....but I'm thinking or building a sterling engine. :-)

...and yes.... I know I'm not the safest guy in the world. You should see what I DON'T video!

    ya, impart shirt designs, please!

  • hey Jaime thank you for your inspirational videos like most people I have been watching since day one keep up the good work.

  • Thanks! It actually inspires me to know I'm inspiring someone. :-) Thats cheesy, I know.... but true

  • I can't wait to see you ride it for the first time. You will need to put some kind of guns on it lol

  • Its dangerous enough without guns! I don't want to get killed on it! ha ha

  • You are fantastic, i remember watching you since day one! Continue with the madness!

  • Ya... I look at the old videos sometimes, and say things like... Oh mt gawd, I can't believe I did that. ha ha

  • its so cool to see all the pieces coming together :)

  • This is great! Can't wait to see the finished product. Sweet!

  • One of the best updates in a long time!

    500 stars!!

Can't wait for the next one!

  • So for your motor. If you run into issues with the DC motor control (or rather the motor not liking being PWM driven underload)...

You can get some variable speed drives out of an old snowmobile, remove the centrigul weights, and drive it with a push rod / bearing.

Run your motor at full RPM's, and use the push rod to change your speed/torque. It'll work well as long as the belt doesn't slip.

I have a feeling that your going to need to gear your motor down. The legs are moving too fast

  • Holy crap it's coming together fast!, i I didn't realize that compared to the immense amount of mechanics in the interior the legs would be simple!

  • That thins looks both frieghtening, and awsome at the same time!

I think you might have to pad up the cockpit, because it looks like she's gonna be a mover and a shaker :-P

  • No Jaimie no! You misunderstood! That table isn't fancy! Now get a fancy one! :P

    oh and WOOHOO! IT LIVES!

  • just out o curiosity, Where are you going to park this thing when your done?

  • ANYWHERE

  • yeah i cant wait to see this on the news soon! im im talking like international =D

  • ha ha. ya, that'll be funny. Well, I still have to finish it first!

  • I still think he's gonna build a bigger one as a carrier for the dome.

  • the sad part is is that that wouldn't surprise me at all.

  • I'm not sure what you're talking about, but.... I like surprises. ...especially chocolate ones! ...or boobies. ha ha. oops, did I say that???

  • actually.... I really want to build a walking fortres....

  • i want to live in a corner of your shop.. i will not take up much space and i can lifted heavy things..

  • I have been keeping up with all of your vids and I must say that this is impressive! The Alum-Spider is taking perfect form! This will be intense when completed!

  • I want to buy a T shirt if you press up a some,

  • me 2 i'd pay almost anything

  • wait, what? pay almost anything for what...??? uhh... I like money. heh heh... it buys more robot parts!

  • Don't forget that when it's all assembled, you'll have to navigate the forest, etc., and it may be to big to go anywhere. Maybe think about some way to disassemble it later (without resorting to the blow-torch), in order to get to a more roomy test area.

  • woooow, its looking really cool now! Keep up the good work Jaimie!

  • That thing is intense! These videos are the best thing on youtube right now.

  • Sweet! I need to donate something so i can get a giant robot crew shirt!!! That would be awesome!

Also, its looking really cool! Its really neat to actually see the legs coming into shape!

  • ideas for the shirt:

"BITCHES DON'T KNOW 'BOUT MY GIANT ROBOT!"

    "MAZINGER Z ? PFFT!"

"SPIDERS ARE COOL. GIANT ROBOTIC SPIDERS ARE EVEN COOLER!"

  • "I HOPE YOU'RE NOT SCARED OF SPIDERS."

  • Thats a good one.

  • I kin just some vector graphics, of all the pieces, laid out in an orderly fashion, on the front, and on the back... Tour dates?

OH. MY. GOD. GIANT ROBOT TOURS. This is the best thing ever. You're gonna need to do the UK aswell, Jaimie.

  • He definitely needs to bring this thing to the Maker Faire when he finishes. They'll let him drive it around the fairgrounds! He could fight the fire-breathing snail car!

  • where is the maker faire, anyway?

  • The maker faire is in the san francisco bay area and in austin, TX. They usually have it once a year in each location. I think they're having one in the UK now too.

  • ha ha. OK, if I do a giant robot tour, I'll make sure I hit the UK. :-P I think I need a way huger robot fofr tours!

....I'll be starting that as soon as I get some resources together. :-)

  • Oh my sweet deity.

If you hit the UK, I'd quit college and be your groupie. :D

  • what about Burning Man? thats a cool place for giant robot spiders ( they already have one - watch?v=40debSRrAOw ... make it two!)

  • It moves! - looks like progress

  • great progress. that does look like it would be scary in real life. good thing you don't have too many neighbors around. they would probably think the aliens had landed!
