@dlm04e He started wearing them as an incentive to finish the road. Then he just carried on wearing them with the Chain mail to get more of a work out while doing everyday things
your a mad genius man. i subscribed to your channel forever ago, and at first i had truble visualizing the robot, but now im starting to see it come together.
Great scott! It moves! I'm just curious, how will it turn? Cause all the legs move in synch. Is there like a switch/ some mechanism that changes the type of movement to turn left/right?
The drive is located one a turnable base ontop of the central body , when it turns it changes the swiveling motion of the legs attached to it resulting in the unit moving in a diferent direction.
And in earlier videos he told us that he'll have like a stearing-wheel ontop in order to turn :B
Also , not all legs move in sync , 3 of them are move up while one of them(the one that's smaller) moves down , so he's probably done with the 2 other legs in the next video :)
If you make a giant robot t-shirt you should put it up for sale on some website and make some profit. I know I would totally buy one, and that can be a nice way for us regular shmoes to contribute!
definitely looks like all your hard work is paying off, have u ever had to re-do something on the robot because the 1st sketch or oart didnt work out?
This thing is really starting to look like something. I can hardly wait to see it go! Keep it up, the world is waiting.
Are you planning on riding on that? How big is the motor?
One more thought, if enough people are inspired by this, perhaps there will someday be a competition. Maybe like ballebots, or maybe something less destructive.
You are the man Jamie. This thing is really shaping up nicely. You should build a little compartment in the robot so that frog can ride along with you. Thanks for the really frequent updates this month, it's awesome!
I'm not worried about the legs snapping.... at least not compared to how much I'm worried about some of thos other parts snapping! repairs will be annoying.
Ooo! You should have 2 different T-Shirts. One for contributors and one for fundraising. Id buy both lol :P Im hoping ill be able to visit and help out again within the next 2 or 3 months!
oh, no way! Thats cool. uhh... tell her to e-mail me. :-) Oh... my regular e-mail is better. ...the one on my website. Youtube's email system is a bit of a mess.
Hey dude. I love watching your videos, I check for updates regularly. Wish I could help in some way, but, unfortunately engineering isn't one of my strong points. So I'll just say, keep up the good work! This is pretty damned interesting stuff.
Coool... i cant understand why the motor would be powerfull enough and the legs and stuff.. but im no technician so i hope everything will work out in the end which is near!
Kudos to you Jamie your are the epitome of DIY really means, and though I am a tool user purist, and somethings (in the robot build) make me cringe I never look away, by the way...how is the taig lathe working out? If you need anything else let me know. Now where's my T-shirt? LMAO...J/K...may I impart an idea of a shirt design? I may even be speaking for everyone else here (not on my design but individual design ideas from your fans)
As for t-shirt design use a rough sketch of the original smaller robot, as though set in the back round and a same rough drawing of the larger robot in the foreground and almost taking up the low left hand sid of the shirt with JMEMantzel situated vertically against an emboldened GIANT ROBOT BUILD and a "sequel shirt of the same design but a drawing of the finished [larger] robot and the word completed acroos the bottom bold words, I don't know how to draw in programs so I'll try to sketch it.
Aw, dude. You'll totally get a t-shirt first. :-)
The lathe is cool. I'm waiting to play with it, though... until I get the robot done. I need to stick a motor on it too. ....but I'm thinking or building a sterling engine. :-)
...and yes.... I know I'm not the safest guy in the world. You should see what I DON'T video!

So for your motor. If you run into issues with the DC motor control (or rather the motor not liking being PWM driven underload)...
You can get some variable speed drives out of an old snowmobile, remove the centrigul weights, and drive it with a push rod / bearing.
Run your motor at full RPM's, and use the push rod to change your speed/torque. It'll work well as long as the belt doesn't slip.
I have a feeling that your going to need to gear your motor down. The legs are moving too fast
hakachukai 2 years ago
Holy crap it's coming together fast!, i I didn't realize that compared to the immense amount of mechanics in the interior the legs would be simple!
