Imagine keeping gravel clean when you feed broccoli and quality sinking small pellet. It's impossible. Bare bottom reduces the likelihood of harmful pathological bacteria, reduces places for parasites to hide and multiply, eliminates toxic anaerobic bacteria growth, speeds cleaning of the tank - and it's healthier overall.
