It is a rediculous rule, I fully support the redcross, but when they come to my campus I will bring awareness to it by encouraging "staight supporters" (heterosexuals that support gay rights) to give blood.

red cross needs to stop hating cause I was raped and baltimore city helath dept cleared me to okay to be blood donor and she said I dont have to tell them about raped and I listen to ehr since she in the health feild. so when I told red cross I was raped they treat me rude I'm not Gay and have nothing agiast them and one of workers at Donor Mangerment ask me are you gay and her name is Jackie from redcross and i said NO. It was okay they took my blood all my tests is negative.

As you note, there is a 12 month deferral period for anyone who has engaged in male to male sex. Given that the event in question took place beyond this timeframe, you should be eligible to donate, provided you meet all other donor selection criteria.

In other parts of the world, we're seeing a movement to redefine blood and organ donation policy so that it measures risk against a set of behaviours, sexual and otherwise, rather than what amounts to sexual orientation. Spain, Italy, and Portugal have adopted this approach, and France and Switzerland are moving in this direction. Australia and several South American countries now allow men who have not had sex with another man within the past year to donate blood.
