You can hear the Roxy Music influence in just about all their material. Such stellar performers they are! I was just a kid when I saw Seven & The Ragged Tiger and I consider it one of the best shows I ever attended alongside Pink Floyd and Rush.
Oh my goodness... this song REALLY takes me back. I am fourteen once again, listening to this song with my best friend Rita (at the time). She was in love with Simon, but Nick was always my favorite. Her mother used to bring us these awesome Itialian cookies in her cellar, oh my goodness it is 1982 again,,,,
@8g9ftso I was 13 in 1982 and a HUGE fan of D2. My bedroom walls and ceiling were covered in Duran Duran posters and my jean jacket was full of D2 buttons. Good times.
@dupont94 Me too man, me too... Back in those days, people would ask, 'What are you into?' - but now it's just 'What do you look at online...?' I don't know, maybe it is just nostalgia but I think we were part of a special generation and Duran Duran was part of that specialness... ;)
@weiler97 Um... I wouldn't call DD's choice of apparel 'conservative' (and certainly not the apparel of the beautiful supermodels that they showcased in most of their vids); however yes, if you look at Lady GaGa and the kind of bold stuff that she wears in front of '000's of people (next to nothing), then yes at least, they believed in wearing some clothing!! ;)
Soulful max !!!!i dont know how to explain the way I fell Listen to duran !!!! but is something so Beautiful and soulful and make me fell in 80s... The best time ! IM 16 old!
claps for one of The best group of all time ... for me is better Than Michael Jackson ( RIP )
aaaaaaaaah still love it. his voice the timber, intonation fullness he smacks of chemistry. what a man. I've had a crush on Simon since i was 8 and I still do ;)
I was 12 and very much believed I would marry simon. I am nearly 40 and still wouldnt mind, i know hes taken.they were part of the reason my affair with living in europe started and I did for many yrs. and got married there, had my children.music influences yr life so much.
@computerwife You say 'I know he's taken,,,' Last I heard about Simon, he was married to some British supermodel in the mid-1990's or so. After that I lost account of his personal life, I would like to know if he stayed with his 1st wife or did he move on to another (it sounds like you know more about this?). ;)
I love this. I'm 21 and I know what it feels like to have to dig deep into music these days to find something worth. I think is my 87 blood that has me loving and loving the 80s and DD even more. Perfect! JT I love you oh so much! =)

@paintedship YOu arse. YOu keep popping up wiht that shit. THis sounds nowt like Japan. You think Japan made duran duran. You are music know-nowt that is what you are. Duran Duran are not a tribute of act of roxy music which japan were(past tense coz they only had 1 album that was any good). afore you start again, japan were commercial. they used giorgio moroder and both him and rhodes emulated andy warhol hence the look a like other than that duran duran are original. so piss off.

@Fluidvirgo this album was actually penned in 1980 although not released until 1982. so who is copying who? duran were influenced by roxy music/sex pistols/velevet underground/david bowie/chic
John Taylor by far is one of the most under-rated bass players, his playing is so authentic and eccentric it's lusciously fantastic! First band i ever saw in concert, and will always be an inspiration forever!!
agree 800%. Complete technical mastery but also highly innovative. I think even fans dont appreciate just how much his playing contributed to the early duran duran sound
I agree. I saw them back in 2004 the original 5 members together at a small venue in Atlanta. I remember thinking how timeless the music was and the atmosphere was incredible in such a small place, felt like I was taken back to the 80's. Incidentally we saw the guys after the concert and they were all very nice, signed autographs and took pictures. I called my mom at 1AM saying "guess what?" She loved me for that...lol
What is the deal with all the lip synching? Don't get me wrong, I love Duran Duran but didn't they get tired of acting to play and sing? This is like the 20th vid of early 80's performances and frankly they look bored. :P
there's a video of them playing Notorious on TOTP and it's hilarious - Simon doesn't even have a mic and he starts whispering in John's ear during a line. So good.
its a tv show, it takes a lot of time to set up equipment. It's also a way to promote the record so you'll hear what you're going to hear on the album. Almost every group has done it on television at some point especially in the 80s, it's just the way it was. There's live videos of them early on look up chichester festival 81 or hammersmith odeon 82
pretty much everyone on top of the pops lipsyncd. sometimes the bands werent even aware the track was playing and just stood there like asses. still, a good show and a great band.

if you look it up anywhere on the internet, any interview or book. they say nick and john went to college/school together and were from birmingham, not sure about roger. but simon was from london and andy came down from newcastle as a response to an advert they put in. andy wasnt even aware at the time that there wasnt a singer yet. becuase simon le bon hadnt been auditioned yet, this was after stephen duffy left as the vocalist. look it up anywhere, anywhere at all
@dmouland roger taylor is from birmingham too. he came from same bit as my auntie. nick and john are birmingham, andy is newcastle ane le bon is from pinner, london. any how, its not hard to get this information on the net.
@dmouland OK - but they are all English, as opposed to Scottish or Welsh or irish. Doesn't sound like a big deal to us but to them the lines of demarcation run deep... ;)
I don't see any ageing... I think he still looked freaking young (which he was :) in 82 - don't know about drugs (although sadly, probably) but also late nights, etc.? - the rock'n'roll life...
I actually read and heard him talk about doing drugs 'til 1986. But, I don't see any aging either. He even still looks good now. Well, I think anyway.
@prkemanga I don't think that JT will leave, he's too committed to the cause... Andy, however, from as early back as '83 or '84 always had some kind of an issue with contracting or touring or whatever. He may in fact be too independent for Duran Duran to handle; however we can still wish him the best, and us 'old-timers' from the '80's will always remember his contributions to the band...

Please tread gently on the ground
When all around you earth turns to fire
