  • WOW - gorgeous song - haunting lyrics that now mean something more to me now as a 41 year old - lost on a 14 year old LOL

  • Wow, enhanced audio. Excellent upload of the classic track!

  • classic duran, although john taylor was hostage to that fretless bass !

  • Rio is such a classic album, full of some many terrific songs, but this one ranks as one of my favorites. :)

  • You can hear the Roxy Music influence in just about all their material. Such stellar performers they are! I was just a kid when I saw Seven & The Ragged Tiger and I consider it one of the best shows I ever attended alongside Pink Floyd and Rush.

  • Los amo tanto, que ya no tengo palabras.

  • Must be lucky whether when you find the kind of wind that you need

Come on show me all the light and shade that made your name

I know you've got it in your head, I've seen that look before

You've built your refuge, turns you captive all the same

  • Rio was an unbelievable album...

  • Oh my goodness... this song REALLY takes me back. I am fourteen once again, listening to this song with my best friend Rita (at the time). She was in love with Simon, but Nick was always my favorite. Her mother used to bring us these awesome Itialian cookies in her cellar, oh my goodness it is 1982 again,,,,

  • @8g9ftso I was 13 in 1982 and a HUGE fan of D2. My bedroom walls and ceiling were covered in Duran Duran posters and my jean jacket was full of D2 buttons. Good times.

  • @dupont94 Me too man, me too... Back in those days, people would ask, 'What are you into?' - but now it's just 'What do you look at online...?' I don't know, maybe it is just nostalgia but I think we were part of a special generation and Duran Duran was part of that specialness... ;)

  • This is sucha a great song!

  • You do realize they're lip syncing, right? It's still great watching them "play," but this is definitely tracked.

  • Not me weiler97!

  • Anyone else amused by the conservative outfits from 1982 compared to what people where to shows today?

  • @weiler97 Um... I wouldn't call DD's choice of apparel 'conservative' (and certainly not the apparel of the beautiful supermodels that they showcased in most of their vids); however yes, if you look at Lady GaGa and the kind of bold stuff that she wears in front of '000's of people (next to nothing), then yes at least, they believed in wearing some clothing!! ;)

  • Incredible song, awesome memories!!

  • Wow they sound amazing , thanks so much for the post.My mind is flooded with terrific memories from my past.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • One of the best songs from the rio album (vinyl!!!). Pity this isn't live.

  • Love this song. Takes me back to the early 80s and the crush I had on a girl that I can only remember as she looked then.......

  • Soulful max !!!!i dont know how to explain the way I fell Listen to duran !!!! but is something so Beautiful and soulful and make me fell in 80s... The best time ! IM 16 old!

claps for one of The best group of all time ... for me is better Than Michael Jackson ( RIP )

  • Love it! Great Memories! Gorgeous song!

  • aaaaaaaaah still love it. his voice the timber, intonation fullness he smacks of chemistry. what a man. I've had a crush on Simon since i was 8 and I still do ;)

  • I LOVE DURAN DURAN since 1984 .......

  • what a incredible song- never get old.

  • I was 12 and very much believed I would marry simon. I am nearly 40 and still wouldnt mind, i know hes taken.they were part of the reason my affair with living in europe started and I did for many yrs. and got married there, had my children.music influences yr life so much.

  • @computerwife You say 'I know he's taken,,,' Last I heard about Simon, he was married to some British supermodel in the mid-1990's or so. After that I lost account of his personal life, I would like to know if he stayed with his 1st wife or did he move on to another (it sounds like you know more about this?). ;)

  • @8g9ftso I believe he is married to a lady called Yasmin Parveneh and they have 3 daughters

  • I love this. I'm 21 and I know what it feels like to have to dig deep into music these days to find something worth. I think is my 87 blood that has me loving and loving the 80s and DD even more. Perfect! JT I love you oh so much! =)

  • you might like the band Japan if you like DD, they were very much influenced by them early on.

  • Japan is still in heavy rotation on my ipod! (Rather than vinyl.. *sighs* !)

  • @gregingram1970 don't you have something better to do with your time than reply to months old comments? Figures you would take the time to do this, I'll just say this..

I expect a long drawn out vile comment back from you which I'm going to ignore and never read so go ahead and waste some more time. I'm done wasting it with you, oh by the way go fuck yourself ;)

  • i wish this days back--look all this shit music what is out today...!

  • @replicas79 yh.. its not even music :(

  • @replicas79 not true you should check out White Lies you'll love the first album if you like early Duran like me I dare you :-)

    xx

  • Simon is always in my dreams :)

  • And St. Tsarevich Alexei is often in mine! LOL. But this is a great Duran song, isn't it?

  • cool. not seen that video clip before

  • Pure Class in fact grantie 1, who else could do a pop-song like this, with this pop-sense?

  • I fell in love with my first American boy and this was our song. I will never ever forget, forget. Thank you DD. ^ . . ^

  • simon is still hot and ive seen them live. i want simon to be my plaything

  • ditto I love Simon :D

  • Simon IS still hot, and I would love to have John Taylor be my plaything. :)

  • my fav song from rio pure class

  • this is true 80's music, top down cruising down the California coast!

  • Thanks for the post.

  • Rio great album!!!!!!!!

  • Is John playing a frettless bass,

just like Mick Karn from Japan also did?

  • simon ~ dee-lish !

  • you are so true ; )

  • Listen to the basspart in the last verse... And to think Rick James's Superfreak came out around that time, who copied off of who?

  • John Taylor by far is one of the most under-rated bass players, his playing is so authentic and eccentric it's lusciously fantastic! First band i ever saw in concert, and will always be an inspiration forever!!

  • agree 800%. Complete technical mastery but also highly innovative. I think even fans dont appreciate just how much his playing contributed to the early duran duran sound

  • I agree. I saw them back in 2004 the original 5 members together at a small venue in Atlanta. I remember thinking how timeless the music was and the atmosphere was incredible in such a small place, felt like I was taken back to the 80's. Incidentally we saw the guys after the concert and they were all very nice, signed autographs and took pictures. I called my mom at 1AM saying "guess what?" She loved me for that...lol

  • Could you imagine being one of the lucky people in that small of an audience?

Those glances Simon keeps throwing at the cameras...*melt* XD

    Thanks for posting this!!

    MeOw!

  • I don't care if this isn't live, so beautiful. :)

  • What is the deal with all the lip synching? Don't get me wrong, I love Duran Duran but didn't they get tired of acting to play and sing? This is like the 20th vid of early 80's performances and frankly they look bored. :P

  • haha they really did get tired of it.

there's a video of them playing Notorious on TOTP and it's hilarious - Simon doesn't even have a mic and he starts whispering in John's ear during a line. So good.

  • its a tv show, it takes a lot of time to set up equipment. It's also a way to promote the record so you'll hear what you're going to hear on the album. Almost every group has done it on television at some point especially in the 80s, it's just the way it was. There's live videos of them early on look up chichester festival 81 or hammersmith odeon 82

  • pretty much everyone on top of the pops lipsyncd. sometimes the bands werent even aware the track was playing and just stood there like asses. still, a good show and a great band.

  • @Tatersalad831 They were very busy back then... ;)

  • this is not live.

  • wat r u on. 4 members of this band came from birmingham and le bon comes from Pinner u plank.

  • thats true, why are people thumbs down this. its a fact, look it up anywhere people lol

  • if you look it up anywhere on the internet, any interview or book. they say nick and john went to college/school together and were from birmingham, not sure about roger. but simon was from london and andy came down from newcastle as a response to an advert they put in. andy wasnt even aware at the time that there wasnt a singer yet. becuase simon le bon hadnt been auditioned yet, this was after stephen duffy left as the vocalist. look it up anywhere, anywhere at all

  • @dmouland roger taylor is from birmingham too. he came from same bit as my auntie. nick and john are birmingham, andy is newcastle ane le bon is from pinner, london. any how, its not hard to get this information on the net.

  • @dmouland OK - but they are all English, as opposed to Scottish or Welsh or irish. Doesn't sound like a big deal to us but to them the lines of demarcation run deep... ;)

  • hey that's "Durian"...not Duran...what a jokes u try to do??? anyway, love this song so much...love Duran Duran forever :-)

  • Lovely lyrics...beautiful song..

  • such a chilling, haunting, but beautiful song!

    DD, best band :)

  • I had forgotten this one! Thanks for reminding me of a classic Duran Duran hit!

  • Those people dancing look retarded.

  • We all did back then.

  • one of the best duran songs ever,it still has all the elements now.

  • i don't think that song is for dancing but well that was the 80's i want a guy just like john!

  • favourite duran song

  • Lebon on vocals and handsome too!!!

  • this is BEYOND amazing material!i ADORE DD pre-84!thnxs for putting this

  • my heart flutters :)

  • The children who dance...so cute :)

  • Simon at his cutest ever!

  • i love duran duran.

    luiz, BRAZIL

  • Even on the darkest night

When empty promise means empty hand

    And soldiers coming home

    Like shadows turning red

When the lights of hope are fading quickly

    Then look to me

    I'll be your homing angel,

    I'll be in your head

  • I see the delta traces living lonely out on the limb

And a passing glimmer warm beneath your skin

Please tread gently on the ground

When all around you earth turns to fire

Only get a second chance when danger's on the wind

  • Must be lucky weather when you find

The kind of wind that you need

C'mon, show me all the light and shade

    That made your name

I know you've got it in your head,

    I've seen that look before

    You've built your refuge,

Turns you captive all the same

  • Because you're so lonely in your nightmare

    Let me in

And it's cold out on your stone range

    Let me in

Because there's heat beneath your winter

    Let me in

  • wow you are a gem how the hell do you even have this. absolutely le bon at his best .

  • If you stopped and listened to them they truely are new wave. What a sound in the mid break of this song.

  • The sexiest group of men to ever walk the earth. . .

  • Mmm,I love this song~~~~~

  • yum ;)

  • had my first crushes at school when this song was out. how cool i used to think i was knowing the words, wow, the 80's. . . Love It

  • WOW, what a chill down my back seeing them like this. Only sad for what SONY MUSIC did that ended with Andy leaving once again.

  • Simon Le Bon Aged a Lot Between 81 and 82 drugs?

  • I don't see any ageing... I think he still looked freaking young (which he was :) in 82 - don't know about drugs (although sadly, probably) but also late nights, etc.? - the rock'n'roll life...

  • I actually read and heard him talk about doing drugs 'til 1986. But, I don't see any aging either. He even still looks good now. Well, I think anyway.

  • @AscendentInLeo What kinds of drugs did he do... ?

  • WOW this video perfectly shows that DD is nothin g without John and Andy :)))

Now that Andy is gone i can only hope that John wont do the same and we wont have to relive '85..

  • @prkemanga I don't think that JT will leave, he's too committed to the cause... Andy, however, from as early back as '83 or '84 always had some kind of an issue with contracting or touring or whatever. He may in fact be too independent for Duran Duran to handle; however we can still wish him the best, and us 'old-timers' from the '80's will always remember his contributions to the band...

  • i love the extra lines at the end it makes the song more somber, the production on this track alone is outstanding.

  • Tks whoever u r........

  • ufff wow ke buena rola!!! la version del video es mas larga que esta no??

wow what a good song!!! the video version is longer than this one no?? i believe this is the album version... yes, no? xD

  • Sí , esta es la versión del álbum.

Yes, this is the album version. The video version is large, had an additional verse "Because there's silent in your stone age let me in" and features an extended guitar solo at the end. Very nice!.

  • Dear Sir Lucky Taylor, if I understand well the LP version sounds exactly like this one from the BBC

Because I really don't like the sound on the video clip. Could you confirm, I want this take on vinyl. Thanks.

  • 1982 or 2007 this song is better than most things from then...in between ... and now

  • I feel old..1982! It's scary although I do love Duran Duran!!!

  • duran duran-----ONLY THE BEST!!

  • Song's great, too bad it's not really live, though.

  • If only we could see John and Andy's faces.

  • Thanks for this.. Was this from Get set for Summer? I have several old VHS videos from the early eighties that I must share, news clips live stuff - now if I can only obtain a betamax video to play them!!!!;-)

  • muy buena cancion por fin lo veo en

version "en vivo" pero en total a simon nadie lo

    iguala

  • a surealistic love song that only can be done by duran duran!!!

  • Let me be the first to comment, I love duran duran and this song is amazing. I would say an under valued gem.
