Great vid. This reminds me of the hump back whales lumps on it's leading edge of its fins. They were said to be a poor design as all aircraft designers "know" that leading edges should be smooth. No one thought to test it out. Well someone eventually did decide to check it out. He is now selling industrial ceiling fans with new technology inspired by the hump back whales fins. And the increases in performance are significant, as is initial testing for applying it to wind farm propeller blades.
Vestigial Structures or Organs are structures that have lost all or most of there original function. Such as the human appendix which is the shrunken remainder of the cecum, used by herbivores to digest cellulose. As the human appendix is no longer capable of digesting cellulose, it is regarded as a Vestigial organ, regardless of any minor function it may still have. Why design a shrunken remainder of something that might play a role in the immune system? That's not intelligent, its evolution!
Around 7:35 he cites books from 1976! Honest research? And about the appendix having an actual function: Two doctors, Loren and Zahid, recently suggested that the appendix might play a role in the immune system, although more research has yet to show this is true in all cases. Creationism can't account for these examples of human vestigiality: wisdom teeth, Jacobson's organ in the olfactory region, the transparent third eyelid that all humans have or some vestigial reflex (AKA: goosebumps) etc.
This video is rubbish!! This is all just semantics. Vestigial means the body part has lost its original function not that it necessarily has no function. How does this disprove evolution?
It is an absurd notion that our alleged ancestral predecessors didn't do well enough to survive with more complete organs - while we CONTINUE TO THRIVE with "leftovers."
Brad here characterizes vestigiality as an organ which has no purpose. In actuality, vestigial organisms are characterized by their lack of ability to perform their originally intended function. Brad mentions the hind legs in whales. These are considered vestigial because whales are no longer land walking creatures and do not use these features for the purpose of walking. /watch?v=rW_2lLG9EZM
@jcchurch The wales "pelvis" is nothing of the sort. They are used in the reproduction system and are NOT leftovers. Should these bones be removed, the whales would not be capable of reproduction and would go extinct as a result.
@TChapman500 Remember. Brad Harrub is giving you a faulty definition of the word "vestigial". We have evidence that whales were once creatures that walked the land and their physiology shows this.
@jcchurch Check out these videos to see whale evolution get owned. Also do a search on [creation(.)com/] on "whale evolution." What you are saying about vestigials is contrary to what other evolutionists have said. And the whales "hips" or "hind legs" or whatever you call them, is used for REPRODUCTION and are NOT leftovers of "hind legs" at all.
@TChapman500 So I watched your videos. They all seem to be from one guy intent on quote mining different biologists discussing the evolution of modern whales. This is hardly academic work. Quote mining does not count as evidence for your viewpoint.
@jcchurch It can't be quote-mining since the entire quote is displayed (on multiple slides when needed). I think you just don't want to believe that whale evolution has no scientific grounds.
@jcchurch Vestigials are organs that once had a use but no longer have a use. So far, all "vestigials" have been found to have some use. Just because a use cannot be found the instant the organ is found, doesn't mean it's useless.
Quote-mining is manipulating a quote to make it say what you want it to say. The videos I linked have no quote-mining in them.
@TChapman500 For "vestigials", you are using Brad's faulty definition of "vestigial". It doesn't mean "no longer have a use", it means that the organ has a reduced use. With your definition, there is no such thing as a vestigial organ, because we can come up with a use for anything. That's not a proper application of the term. And quote mining is when someone selectively pulls quotes to misrepresent the work of an author/presenter. The videos that you link are examples of quote mining.
@TChapman500 It's time to advance your scientific literacy. You certainly cannot build it up watching creationist videos and reading creation.com. Those videos and sites promote a faith perspective and have no interest in advancing our scientific knowledge. Challenge yourself everyday.
@jcchurch Anything that opposes evolution is considered 'unscientific' by evolutionists and they will stop at absolutely nothing to ensure that the myth of evolution is never opposed.
@TChapman500 Okay, so you are a conspiracy theorist. Thousands of high school and college biology instructors have an insidious plot to .... to .... teach biology to kids trying to get into med school. Honestly, why else do you think this is true? Why are so many people in on this conspiracy of evolution, many of whom teach at Christian college campuses? Really. Go on.
@jcchurch I said nothing about the teachers! You are making a hyperbole of what I have said (typical)! The actual conspiracy is with those that write the textbooks. Here's a small sample of the lies that are in the textbooks.
@TChapman500 You foolish person. Who teaches evolution? Biology teachers. Who reviews the text books for their classrooms? Biology teachers! This ain't hyperbole. This is reality. You are clearly attacking teachers. Teachers have a hard enough job that they don't need conspiracy theorists like yourself saying their academic passion is a lie. Leave teachers alone.
@jcchurch And you are deliberately misrepresenting my position! It's not the teachers I'm complaining about! It's the textbooks that are being printed! We're talking about what's being printed in the textbooks! I hold nothing against the teachers! But I do hold to the position that lies are being printed into the textbooks and that they (the textbooks) should be removed! I've said nothing about the teachers, only about the textbooks.
@TChapman500 And do these textbooks write themselves? Of course not. Everything you say goes back to how you don't like the teachers who write and teach about evolution. I bet you are familiar with Harding, Lipscomb, Freed-Hardemen and Abilene Christian. Each of these schools have biology departments that teach modern evolution from standard textbooks. Are these the same "evolutionists" that you slur? I certainly hope not.
Why do you think that we are muscle for muscle, bone for bone the same as a chimp?
Why are chimps closer to humans than they are to gorillas?
Why do pandas have 6 digits?
Why do whales have 5 finger bones in their front flippers?
