I feel bad for the shark movies like these bring fear into people but they actually help the clean up the sea by eating dead things that end up on the ocean floor and they are curious by nature we should be afraid of our selves the movie should be called Beware Of the Humans a film the breaths horror into every living thing....lol
It is actually more of a ripoff of Jaws2 than Jaws. Its got the teenage kids getting killed off, a helicopter crash scene and even the overall feel is more Jaws2.
The makers of Great White were sued back to the stone age by Warner Brothers. They claimed it was (and it was) a colossal rip off of Jaws. It's only available on DVD in Europe. LOL.
@cryptid85 Actually its original title was White Death when it was being made, then right before US release,it was changed to THE Great White, then finally was changed to just Great White. But for oversea releases of the film, they stuck with The Last Shark.
Um?.....Jaws? Ha jaws was release in 1979? and this came out a few years later? This is just a bad version of Jaws and bad acting! The only good thing is you saw the shark alot more then Jaws.
I heard that Universal Pictures sued the italian producers for plagiarizing the Shark from Jaws, and after pictures one their case, Great White was pulled out of the theatres shortly after it's release in the U.S.
I actually got to see this the one week it was allowed to play...Universal sued and had an injunction put on the film after seeing it rake in millions, and the film was yanked from theaters. It still can't get a printing in this country...Yes,it's shitty, but watchably shitty as only the Italians can do...You can find bootlegs from Europe...I highly recommend it to bad movie lovers who think they have seen it all...I still have the original theatrical poster..priceless!
@juicyhog564 The ratings system was much different back then. All these family friendly "PG" movies would've been a "G" back then. "PG" was closer to a "PG-13" or even an "R" in those days. An "R" was more likely to be an "NC-17" now.
I knew this movie existed(1st time seen this trailer in almost 30 years).I remember the movie trailers on tv back in 1982 when I was in 3rd grade.Back during the 1990's and the early years of the 2000's,this movie was always in the back of my cinema thoughts. Was never unable to find this movie on vhs video back during the ol' days.
after a good 5 days in released universal sued the studio and won they had to destroyed all the copies so it never had a video release but the movie poster is still available to buy though they did copy "JAWS" so even now great white isnt on vhs dvd and never will see the light on blu ray
@scrowfan41Thats in the US yes. It´s available on DVD in several countries in Europe. It´s a pretty shitty movie, and obviously a total ripoff. Still it managed to bring in $2,2 million on the only weekend it was shown. Castellari have done some good B-movies though. Inglorious Bastards, Big racket and Street law are still entertaining actionmovies.
They totally ripped off Jaws and Jaws 2 as well. The helicopter scene was an almost shot-for-shot remake of the same scene in Jaws 2, only it was done with greater effect the first time 'round! There's even an old sea-dog like Quint in this one!
I once saw a film called monstertruck as a kid. When I watched it again some time ago I hated it. It really sucked. All the magic from that time was only beacause I had never seen a actionfilm, and therefore it was great. Whatever you see as a kid is something special -because when your a kid everything is special. It is like everything is magic. Is it not??
The guy at 25secs played the man who was being chased by the germans or nazis in The Twilight Zone Movie. (1982). Great White and other shark films that came after Jaws are such a ripoff. They don't even come close 2 Jaws.
@Themaniacnextdoor true, those films were far better. It's too bad about "Great White". I love Italian horror rip-off films, and one about "Jaws" could've been great.
which is an idea they stole of JAWS 2, every shark film after the JAWS Series is awful and a complete rip off, besides Deep Blue Sea of course, that was actually half decent
The most terrifying film of 1982? Yea, right. It was more terrifying when it was released in 1975 and called 'Jaws.' What happened to the director of this eptc and the film studio that released it after Spielberg sued them? You don't mess with Spielberg!!
I own one of the original theatrical posters! It's definately one of my favorites(along with '79 'Prophecy')That's when they knew how to advertise a movie!
Holy shit! When I was about 7 my mother took me to see this at the theatre in Tyler, Texas. Man, I forgot they even made this ripe piece of film. I guess that's how good it was.
i seen this at the theaters summer 1982. loved it as a kid and now that i have it on dvd its god for saken horrible. could the movie be any more borrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ING!!!! Great White, was yanked from theaters because the film was slapped with a LAWSUIT by UNIVERSAL because, it stole ideas from the first 2 JAWS movies, and the case was eventually settled out of court. UNIVERSAL WON THE CASE!!!! YAY!

Great White made 18 millions in the States in very short time before Spielberg woke up.
saw this film summer 1982. it seemed so good back then at 12 yrs old. now i watch it and man is it one of the worst rip off films ever. Spielberg actually sued this company for making it and destroying all the negatives so it will never see the light of day again. unless someone like me has it on VHS. Oh well,I still have my memories of seeing PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE,LASERBLAST,TREASURE OF THE 4 CROWNS,ANDY WARHOLS FRANKENSTEIN(in 3-D!)etc at that very same theater.
So basically no one except Universal is allowed to make a movie about a great white shark is what the courts said ay?

I remember when this movie came out. There was something on Entertainment Tonight at the time, that if the movie was not removed from theaters,Spielberg would sue..or something like that. The threat worked cuz I really wanted to see it at my neighborhood theater, but it vanished, probably playing less than a week.
Oh well,I still have my memories of seeing PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE,LASERBLAST,TREASURE OF THE 4 CROWNS,ANDY WARHOLS FRANKENSTEIN(in 3-D!)etc at that very same theater.
Great days!!
