Southeast Asia was a home of Khmer people, Thai were kicked out of Tailand in Nanchao by the Mongol and they became the slaves of Khmerpeople and they copied Khmer culture since then. Watch video on my channel Thai copied even Khmer Angkor Wat for Thai royal palace today.
As i understand, this is called ranad-ek, isn't it??? wtf!!!! this is surely not Renad Tum!!! i'm' also thai musical player...so i dare to clarify that!!
it seems the players are from the northern part of thailand who love central thai music to play northern songs. and again, it called ranad ek may be because it has 21-22 bars on the instrument. Well done man!
Do you know the difference between the ranaad ek and the ranaad tum? I looked it up before I posted the video but couldnt figure it out. Anyway, many more videos yet to come!
The ranaad ek is often used as the main instrument, so if you see a ranaad played alone it is usually a ranaad ek. Easy notice is that ranaad ek has a small square base and a curved bottom. Tum has a straight bottom base. Just find some pictures. There are huge differences. It is also played different.
Also, the Tum has a much lower sound and the bars' lengths dont vary all that much, it is just the blocks on the underside that vary, whereas on the Aek, the bars of wood are varied in a constant way.
Where could I purchase a ranad ek in the U.S? I've searched for quite awhile and have found nothing. Thanks!
