anyone know what audio book this is from? searched loads cant find it, i think its richard burton, but whats the title, sounds really cool. love the song is original and classic
Still love this song after all these years, I took it from my brother and played it over and over in 95' when I first heard it, it sounds better the louder you turn it up!
Dont mind the original, but the remix is the business!
@chrishbbbq The exact URL is in the description of the video. Note that the recording was from 93 and the record was released in 94. It's the same thing.
When I first met James McParlane he had a PDP11 in the kitchen and (because he was short of wire when a fault occurred) he had soldered a fork in place to keep the machine running.
Tom, Hi, Great stuff! Sorry if I sound like a fan - but Severed Heads were so so far ahead of the curve. I imagine you were in it for its own sake, but I can't help feeling a lot more filthy money, success and recognition should have come your way! Would you mind saying what music moves you today? All best.
A wonderful find; many thanks for taking me back! I still have the CD single rattling round my house somewhere. Must find it and put it in my car. Best regards, P. :)
awesome! I haven't heard this for ages and just had one of those "dead eyes opened" moments .... and then I couldn't find my triple J hottest 100 cd! Thanks for putting this up!
I remember this so good, came off school, started to work in a club "Samambaia" in 1987. Whenever this was played, the roof went off & the owner of the club came yellin', the crowd needs Disco!! Heheheheheheh so he could sell more bose.....
I miss Robert so much!!! A remix of this version is still on HIGH rotation on my dancefloor.
I still remember the first time I heard this version at the Moore Park Bowling Club - Alkins was playing it and I walked past Robert and said "congrats" because I knew it was him. He smiled with that innocent proud snarl he was famous for - he was the Master!
the spoken words from this song have echoed through my head for years. Now I spontaneously say the phrase "the dead eyes opened", much to the discomfort of those around.
This compilation kickstarted my love of industrial, got me into KMFDM, Apoptygma, Young Gods and others, and led to me tracking down a couple of Severed Heads albums too :-)
"Clifford Darling..." was my first exposure to Toms genius. In the 80's, I was working at KMSA radio in Grand Junction, CO and I started corresponding with Tom and got on his mailing list for a bit receiving his "SevCom" newsletter. I was one of the few College DJ's to push music from Nettwerk, 4AD and WaxTrax labels which did lead to exposure on CMJ. I miss those days but if it weren't for Tape Loops, sampling, analog synths and imagination who knows? Thank you Tom for being a pioneer!
where can i get 'dead eyes opened' severed heads mixes? ie the radio edit spooked, reopened, the love experiment, original i had it on tape but lost it.
Saw you live at The Bowery with Skinny Puppy in OKC in 86. Been a fan ever since - still remember that awesome video synthesizer! Any video for "The Ant can see legs" or "Big Car?"
thank you so much for this post. i've been searching and searching for this and ended up downloading 3 wrong versions from i-tunes. any idea where i can get this?
I hope you really are Mr. Tom Ellard, Mr. "TomEllard", because it has now, at this moment, fallen to me personally, to tell you...what a great musical group the Severed Heads were and are.
Yes this is the band person. I refuse to visit crap places like MySpace but YouTube at least does something useful. Rather than be eloquent just visit the main site every now and then. Cheers.
this song reached number 11 on the ARIA charts back in 1993. back than rage were playing a top 50 and they did play it in the countdown. thanks for the post many memories there.
This is a great song and interesting video, though I seem to remember a different clip circa 1993, more psychedelic, without dissolving kaleidoscopic effects.
tom, could you please also upload the original of this video? it was on youtube a few months ago, and i would watch it almost every day! the edge of the wedge video is an inspiration!!!
That was awesome, shame it didn't get broadcast. I recognised Zaph's name as 'the Cthugha guy'. The woman's eyes dissolving effect was great and I saw the Cthugha connection straight away. From the description, I was expecting this to look more like something from the demo scene (not thath that would be a bad thing). I also enjoyed the transition from B&W to colour. Sexual content? Must have blinked.
I did do some stuff using demoscene tools, but I was not good enough at it to make it interesting. These guys are geniuses. But I loved VRML. Still do.

@napalm5 its from an old radio show on the BBC called Scales of Justice. The VO is one of the readings from the announcer.

@1tch1n thanks for that! I found it on an audio book site as The Newcastle Train Murder & Death on the Crumbles.

Tom , Thanks a million for your amazing songs.
My collection is as good as complete. Although, after the release of Gigapus, I lost track.
Music should be played as it is intended by the artist. Not all Belgian Dj's got their fame by playing music too slow ... I didn't ;-)

Go to Amazon, search for severed heads. There several compilations. Look on iTunes.
The 'spooked' thing is some hideous Spanish mish mash.

it was either spooked or the love experiment that was the best mixes of this I ever heard alot of syntheziser deep razor like 'Saw' cuts beats etc.
