We used to think that animals had no feelings. But science recently proved that animals have a sharper nervesystem than humans. Their senses, like sight, hearing and smell are in most times also better than ours so it is logical that they experience abuse as intense as we do and maybe even worse.
Anyone who works with a lot of animals, I have an animalshelter, will see that each animal has a different personality and interacts different than others on their surrounding. They are individuals.

Animalcruelty happens worldwide and some cases are worse than the others. Cruelty also happens in mass-industry but still the way how for example Chinese treat animals is worse because they tend to think that the more an animal suffers, the more adrenalin production and the better the meat taste. It is possible that these people hold the same belief.
If you really love and respect animals then the only way is to spread the message and stop eating mass-industry meat and buying animalproducts.

Well being the redneck that I am LOL I've trapped and butchered my share of snapping turtle , shot and gutted my share of deer , blasted and plucked my share of wild turkey and honestly lost count of the number of coyotes and wild dogs I wiped from the face of the earth simply because I don't want them hanging around , they attack my livestock and get rabid in the spring , but regardless of everything quoted above I would never have the stomach to do this to any animal while he's still alive.

Unless you've experienced living in a rural area then you have no idea what pests coyotes and wolves can be , and the population is growing out of control around here so we do what we do in order to keep it thinned out. This is NOT whats happening here - you can't say what they are doing is the same as what 'we' do to a cow - it isn't normal practice to open a cows guts, wiggle a large rusty knife around, prod about for a bit remove a leg or two - you get the picture. Slaughter is just that - kill quickly. Torturing is a whole new subject altogether.
