  • I like the part where Ray says, "We don't wanna start no nuclear fight, we just wanna have a beach party tonight, woo ooh," and when the guys are playing with the yo-yos as they sing the "yo, yo," part, especially when the yo-yos get tangled...funny!

  • I'm glad to see Ray Stevens' is making a comeback. He's so funny. XP

  • Yet another comedic gem from Ray Stevens. Why isn't it on his boxed set?

  • lol

  • SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH

  • the 2 wives in the backround are going at it

  • ~snicker~ The whole song is great, but the "yo yo yo" bit makes me laugh every time!

  • Sorry, it's Moonlight Special instead of Midnight Special

  • Since Ray started out back in 1960 he has always overdubbed all voices

appearing on his songs except for the female back-ups. Too many hits to

name but his extraordinary achievements are wonderfully exposed on:

Freddie Feelgood and 5-piece band where he also imitates the musical

instruments and Midnight Special where besides the voices he also imitates

doowop music and an incredible Jerry Lee Lewis imitation

  • The opening bit where Ray does his impressions of Gorbachev and Reagan was exclusive to this music video. The actual recording that appears on Ray's 1988 album doesn't feature that comical banter.

  • JOHN LENNON!!! THERE WAS A PICTURE OF JOHN LENNON!!!! i didnt who he was until i was 9 (3 years ago)

  • You know all these other people comment that Mike Love from the Beach boys is singing in this, haven't they thought that Ray might be imitating his voice?

  • quote: "You know all these other people comment that Mike Love from the Beach boys is singing in this, haven't they thought that Ray might be imitating his voice?"

@dryspud: It's baffling to me, as well. I guess they don't want to think Ray can do impressions of other singers. The song was recorded back in 1988 and it's based not only on the news of the day but on the Beach Boys SURFIN' USA song as well as the Beatles BACK IN THE USSR...that's why there's a picture of John Lennon in the song.

  • Yoooóóóó

  • The lead voice has got to be Mike Love of the Beach Boys. I bet the Beach Boys are backing Ray Stevens

  • @luvlipstickkisses: Nope...Ray's doing all of the voices. He overdubs his own voice and sings harmony with himself on a lot of his songs. There's usually a trio of women who sing back-up on his songs, too, but all the main voices are Ray's. A good example of Ray's over-dub prowess is shown on the song "Sunset Strip" from 1970. In that song Ray uses Beach Boys-style harmony throughout the song's chorus. Another good example of his over-dubbing use is on "All My Trials".

  • Very interesting .. and fun. That is Mike Love's voice in there for sure....

  • is there an mp3 for this?

  • @JOELDSDLR: unfortunately Ray's 1988 album hasn't been digitally re-issued, so this song isn't available as an Mp3 yet. The best you can do is listen to the song by way of this video. The song was written by a guy named William Martin, according to the songwriter credits on Ray's 1988 album. The album for those who want to search for it on eBay is called I NEVER MADE A RECORD I DIDN'T LIKE. He's dressed up as Will Rogers on the album's cover doing a rope trick.

  • is this on DVD at all? I need to keep this going!

  • Yes it is. It's on DVD and VHS, it's called "Ray Stevens Comedy Classics". It's always available on Ebay.

  • also, yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo

  • @NekoCat86 I had the VHS of this too.

  • When Ray has his sunglasses on he looks just like my grandpa did :)

  • i always had to fast-forward this song on the VHS because that "woman" in the heart-shaped glasses scared me...

...as an adult, i still find her kind of creepy.

  • my grandma had this tape

  • me too!!! lol. :)

  • mine too, lol! I watched it everytime I was at her house..

  • i had never seen this till 5 years back when a friend said it was something he watched at his grandparents

  • not many people realize that this song is a parody of a parody. the beatles' Back in the USSR was a beach boys parody song. stevens pays homage to the original song @ 1:12 with the picture of john lennon.

  • This takes me back to 1988.

  • I LOVE THIS

  • lol I think everybodies grandparents had this vhs. I watched it all the time with my grandfather. 2:13 always made me laugh.

  • An added not ..my other grandfather looks very similar to ray stevens ..well he did when he was younger anyway

  • BAHAHA my grandparents also had a vhs of this stuff ..i used to watch it every time i went over there ..this is so nostalgic for me..i love it !

  • whoa, weird - mine too. My Gma said she would leave it to me when she died...lol

  • HAHA nice ! ..I should see if my grandparents still have their copy lying around somewhere and ask if i can have it :p

  • I have the ray stevens comedy classics video

  • lol I can remember watching this at a young age with my pawpaw

  • me too

  • my pappaw had the vhs tape and i was very lil i was lke 3 or sumthing and i loved it XD

  • Same here. Back in old Kentucky. The Sitting Up With the Dead video scared the hell out of me though.

  • lol that was my fav!! theres one vid i cant remember the song or anything all i can remeber is that in the vid the words would come up and a lil yellow ball i think would go along with the lyrics XD

    wat part ok ky??

  • South eastern.

  • cool. im from central ky.

  • Ray is just your ordinary, average, everyday, vanilla-type, garden-variety, insane genius.

  • show ray stevens respect! hes a great song writer and he should be treated as a great song writer.

  • God what an ignorant post. Ray Stevens is an american classic. Personally I really dont see what his orientation has to do with anything. Then again, people who are homophobic will find any reason to smear a person no matter what context.

  • Even though this man made songs before I was born. I was literally grown up knowing many of his songs. Still AMAZING! thanks you!

  • me too

  • This is some silly shit.

  • This was my favorite when I was little...& still is!! =]

  • I have this VHS. ;3 Soo Awesome.

  • I believe 1:13 establishes this video as epic win

  • i HAVE THIS FUCKING VHS!!!!

  • Ha ha- Lenin, Lenin, Lenin, Lennon!

  • COOL!!!!!!

  • The BBs can't sue, Ray wrote this song.. He's incredible.. and this song is sooo funny. Get some humor buy Ray.. ( my heart throbs and my feet tap) ty for this vid its great

  • exactly *humbs up*

  • Rnt the Beach Boys the other Russian sub guys?

  • Its a pretty funny.

I'm shocked the Beach boys didn't sue him,

  • Well, the Beach Boys could have been sued for the song Surfing USA in the first place, it was Chuck Berry's song "Sweet little 16" music in the first place.

  • holy cow I haven't seen this since god only knows when I loved this one so much

  • Thanks for posting ----What a funny guy!

  • I totally forgot about this video. Used to watch it as a kid. I've since got Ray Stevens on DVD but this one isn't on it!

  • I honestly have never seen nothin like this... 5/5
