  • I remember listening to SM&Brasil66 as a small child. My mom was a big fan. She was Latin, too I finally got to see them perfrom live in New Orleans, in the late 70s or early 80s. They gave me goose pimples. I still get them, just thinking about it. Listening to all of this, brings back wonderful memories.

  • With your very beautiful dedication. Nlinda

  • 1:05 to 1:19 i remember those two talented and beautiful ladies in their mini dresses and my mother made one for me just like hers! what an era, i love you mom...

  • There was only one Lani Hall. Back in the 1960's, every man who saw her and listened to her sing fell instantly and hopelessly in love. She was, indeed, fascinating and in person she had such a powerful magnetism that you could not take your eyes off her as she performed.

  • @Halo101st I personally had also this experience when SM&B66 toured Brazil back in 1969. Not satisfied with the extraordinary performance of the group, and specially Lani Hall, I waited until they leave the show venue, just to see Lani Hall and Karen Philipp just 2 m (7 ft) apart. An unforgetable experience!

  • @hardbossa Amazing to be so near to that tiny lady, wasn't it?

I was on leave just before shipping out for my first tour in Vietnam. My date, who worked for the booking agency, got us backstage where we talked with Lani. She was chewing on a plastic swizzle stick. When she put it down with the glass, i sneaked it into my pocket and carried it with me the whole time I was in Vietnam. You could see where she chewed on it. It was a good luck charm to me and, apparently, it worked.

  • @Halo101st No doubt about this my friend. You are right, one of the things that drawn my attention then was how tiny she was as compared with Karen Philipp, nevertheless beautiful and talented.

  • She must be ranked as one of the fascinating, interesting vocalists of all time. Her discography is nothing short of amazing. Lani Hall.

  • my song! heavenly lani!

  • Sergio, Herb, or Lani, or anyone.....is the scene at 2:51 that of the 1965 New York World's Fair? Look closely at the structures in the distance.

    Just my imagination running here?

Awesome trumpet work. Is that Herb?

  • @Oldlionel In fact the scene at 2:51 is from the 1970 Tokyo World's Fair, when SM&B66 group, then at the top of their career, were one the main musical attractions of the Fair.

  • Lani is fabulous on this song! Bravo!!!

  • Excellent! Thanks much!

  • セルメン・バンドの看板ヴォーカル、ラニー・ホールのジョビン"DREAMER"~心地いいジャズ・サンバ!~セルメン・バカラックは文句無く(^v^) #jazzm

  • thanks for the post...

  • thank you enjoyed it!

  • Awesome !!

  • What album is this Lani Hall version from?

  • @leoray1234 this version is included on Sergio Mendes' "Encanto" CD.

  • timeless

  • Very nice collage of Lani photos!

  • Miss this music like crazy....nothing like it today. And no one like Lani. To have Alpert, Mendes, Lani Hall all doing Jobim....OMG, it's just heaven.....

  • これは素晴らしいものを見せてもらいました。ありがとう!

    久々にラニホールの美声。涙がちょちょぎれる~。

    セルメンのヴォーカルで最も良かったヴォーカルでしょう。

    ★★★★です!

  • @mineralwada well i could only understand the four stars, and judgeing by them alone I believe and hope it was a positive comment.

  • @hardbossa I'm so sorry about Japanese. what I said is...

    Thanks for a wonderful video.

I heard sweet voice of Lani after a long time.

I cried because I was impressed.

She was the best vocalist in Sergio Mendes group history.

    ★★★★ you got.

  • @mineralwada Thanks for your interest on my video and for your kind comment.

  • Absolutely beautiful. This was my first time hearing this version of "Dreamer" which should have been released as a single.

  • fantastic, they are both just magical like 40 ys ago......

  • This is an amazing track. Think about it, Lani, Herb and Sergio all together for the first time(?). Lani has an echanting voice that is my absolute all time favorite. But it's the ensemble here that really makes this special.

  • Lani just did this song with Sergio on the newer "Encanto" album. I may have to add to my CD collection.

  • @cordyc a good idea! This is a multi-artist CD album, and in my view it is worth buying just for the Lani participation alone.

  • thank you so much for this sparkling gem.

I love Sergio Mendes and I love Lani Hall.

She's at her best with the Brazilian rhythm and she

should really make newer albums with Brazilian musicscape.

  • Simply, it is a beautiful piece of art. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Mexico.

  • that would have been a great idea, HB " Lani Hall sings Jobim Songbook" w/ small jazz combo to highlight her voice (and it's never too late for her to consider that idea still!) thanks.. another gem from your channel, 5* /fav (nice photos, too)

  • @curumina1, thanks for your very kind comment. I hope Lani somehow hears our clamor.

  • @curumina1 thanks for sharing Paula - soothing & lovely. ditto on the visuals to hardbossa - peace ;.)

  • @curumina1 Lani Hall and her husband put out an album of standards last year called "Anything Goes" with a jazz combo which leans heavily on latin rhythms. There's at least a couple of Brazilian songs on the album, though none by Jobim. It's a very good album.

To my ears, "Dreamer" is easily the best tune on the "Encanto" album. Thanks to hardbossa for posting it.

  • @efreet011 I've heard that a new Herb Alpert/Lani Hall CD titled "I Feel You" is due on early 2011. Tracks include: What Now My Love, Something Cool, Fever & There Will Never Be Another You. Great news!

  • @hardbossa Wow! That's great news! Herb Alpert and Lani Hall have great taste in songs. I hope they also include some Brazilian tunes because that's what she really excels at.

  • @efreet011 I hope too. In this video description I comment how wonderful it would be if Lani Hall decided to record a Tom Jobim's songbook CD, as many other singers, some not so qualified as her, had done before.

  • @hardbossa Agreed. There isn't anyone with this kind of talent and this kind of voice making this kind of music anymore. I would also like to see Sergio Mendes do an album with his unreconstructed Brasil '66 sound rather than trying to appeal to the kids with dance music. His recordings from 40 years ago sound fresh and vibrant; I suspect his recent albums won't be recalled in 40 years - other than maybe "Dreamer."

Oh, well. Thanks again for helping to keep the bossa nova alive.

  • @efreet011 Hi, and thank you for the info, I agree about the song, Dreamer

(Hardbossa's channel features some of Lani's most beautiful songs) I already have the cd "Anything Goes" & enjoy it too (they were in concert last year in our area performing songs from same, amazing event) enjoy a good day, everyone! : )
