It's refreshing to know that some people exist that understand the mechanics of the movement and the bio-mechanics of a horse. In other words, the effects of movements like this on this type of ground, with metal shoes ;-)
Still I highly doubt they train this horse like this, everyday, on this type of ground. They were probably just doing it to showcase the horse's abilities.
I'm pretty sure that the horse doesn't spend hours on concrete my guess is it was only on concrete for the video so you could hear the rhythm not just see it. a few minutes is not going to injure or permanently damage that horses legs or hooves. I'm against animal abuse as much as anyone else but I don't believe this qualifies.
dont you think that if it hurt them that bad that the trainer wouldnt of done it??? we had a dressage horse we only roe on pavement for years, and guess what, IT DIDNT HURT HER!!!! she was jsut as healthy she was when we got her, but she died of old age
The training seems to have been done gently, at least I can't see any stress or frustration in the horse, even tho the result isn't perfect yet. The trot/piaff is good training and certainly not less natural here than when you ride. But you can't use your legs as aid from the ground, thus the whip.
I think that the concrete ground is there so you can hear the tact and rythm, it's probably not the ground they train on normally.
This is natural movement on andalusian horses, although, of course, the pace needs training. But the andalusian has this characteristic way of raising the knees high, hence the elegance of the breed.
man i wish my horse could do that but i guess theres no hope to get a quarter horse cross paint to do that and if she did she would do we will we will rock u then the 2 step lol i think this is soo cool thnx
of course you can train a quarter horse to do that,i have seen many quarter horse doing piaffe and paso espan~ol,many mexican train their qh for piaffe(caballo bailador) i even seen trougbreds doing it,los charros son cab. y sela saben de todas todas
this horse has very good balance and a VERY GOOD TRAINER. they should put more videos on here and show the stupid brainless people that this doesn't hurt the horse at all. they can walk and trot normally on hard ground so whats the difference if he is just trotting or walking a different way.
I get your point but piaff is actually a very good thing to train a horse to do, if it´s done correkt. A horse in piaff will put more weight on his hind legs and spare his front legs and back when riden. Sure, it can look like a circus trick but that is not the original though whis this movment. Sorry for my bad english. :/
you idiot, it's a highly technical dressage movement, called piaffe. this is piaffe in it's training stages. it takes a lot of training, discipline and gentle persistance to train a horse to this level...you obviously don't have a clue!
I have been looking at various Andalusian videos here, and I must say this is the most iconic reflection of the breed. Your horse has great confirmation, style, ideal height and "snap" to its actions. I have never owned a horse, but if I did I would buy an Andalusian. They are truly exceptional. Bravo to your horse! :)
first off, he has to have great balance to do it with a human on board, so begin ground training with it first. watch more videos on the piaffe, see how the trainers tap the horses canon bone w/ a whip? normally i will start an in hand trot and slow it down to the point where you can begin the rythm(w/ the whip). In saddle, don't go cold turkey and start a piaffe, but teach to slow the trot, almost in place. remmber, its complicated to them, but with commited practice they will get better.
AMAZING!!!

i think they were trying for the rythym of the horses hooves hitting the concrete so they could hear it better. doesnt mean the horse is abused.

That's true, but they don't do that exercise for more than some seconds. Therefore, there is no damage.
