back in 1985, my friend and I would lay down in her living room and put the tall speakers on each side of us and listen to this song over and over...just such an awesome, chilling, haunting song...still love it to this day!
The Original of this was 17 mins long. Yeah, I could groove to Hooky doing this for that long. I mean, hey, I could do Hooky bass lines all day, but this one is rather heavy, one of the best pieces by them , nothing stands out as a total sample of their work better than this song. Rarely can you base the entire catalog of a band by the quality of one song. I think this one, and Fairytale of New York by the Pogues.
I'm so glad I found this piece. This cut has somewhat of a profound effect on me. It makes me want to sit in the dark get in touch with whatever I'm feeling in life at that moment.
This song is what plays in my soul when i sleep and through bad and good times i hear this all the time so funny how one masterpeice of music can describe your hole being in 5 minutes! Love this could hear it over and over its the most beautiful soulful peice of music ive ever had the pleasure of listening too THANK YOU New Order
@LivinWorstNightmare it would be like watching Queen & Paul Rodgers without thinking about that moustachioed guy who used to hang around with the two of them.
Please stop it...Ian Curtis joined a band called warsaw, which was not founded by him but by the rest. Warsaw, Joy Division, New order...that is the order
New Order tracks get old but some how you can always come back and listen to them and they don't seem to age, New Order themselves got around by word of mouth in the beginning ; without record companies pushing them to make music, Thank God they did, otherwise we would have never got a track like this ...
Holy shit. This was released in 1985? That is absolutely extraordinary. There is nothing in this recording that would suggest such a humble year of origin. I am amazed by its foresight. This could have been composed today and have sounded very much of the era. Wow.
If I ever die again.....and I have twice for a total of 5 minutes 23 seconds.....I chose this to be played and now have a DNR, I think anyone who is an aspiring musician should write lyrics for this tune......it has so many roads a listener can take.
this whole album is one of my favs from New Order if you like this album check out Brotherhood as well. this album carried me through many solo nights with candles burning and siting by the widow watching the rain....there is a great documenty called (24 hour party people) it has a bit of New Orders history....peace...
@TheLonnie8 24 hr party people is awesome......it focuses more on Happy Mondays at times.....damn that band lol......poisoning pigeons seems cool.....I had a signed Brotherhood Album I got at WaxTrax and I sold it for a pint of vodka later.....They are just people so ink means nothing to me. Factory records put out a ton of unheard greats....and some others that were heard....remember the Buzzcocks.....and what about James....everybody now knows Laid but not Hymn from a Village.
How do New Order do it? One minute storming dance tracks like Blue Monday, The Perfect Kiss, Vanishing Point, the next great rock tracks like Regret, Run, Crystal, and then simply timeless pieces like Ceremony, Lonesome Tonight, Leave Me Alone and this. Absolutely amazing.
they play this in pretty in pink in the movie its about a couple and one cant be with the other cause their popularity and rich and poor sdes of the kids lifes Andy Molly Ringwald is ignored by Blain And they play this song when she decides to confront him this song makes me think how i was ignored and left for dead by my x
i love u ian curtis.....i miss u but i will look forward to seeing u again someday!☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺i love u ian curtis.....i miss u but i will look forward to seeing u again someday!☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
This has got to be the best song they ever did by a long shot, and one of the best electronic instrumental pieces ever. Listening to it knowing what I know now, it really is not all that complicated. The lesson for electronic musicians is keep the guitar in the mix. Synths work better with guitar than just on their own.
@pecosbull The whole album was meant to be a tribute to Curtis. They recorded it exactly 5 years after and 5 days before Ian's death. In just one single session, from dusk til dawn
I think this is one of the most poignant pieces of music ever written. It makes me chill, regroup and consider who and where I am before finally thrusting me back out into that crazy world of ours.
That's where I heard this song from. More was a certainly good film. It has charm to it, and provoked my teacher to give a sort of lesson to us about its story, in relation to society today.
