Love this scene, I always took that deer as if it was Joe's mother. Maybe it was God, or maybe just a deer. I guess it all depends of how strong your faith is. Which is what the "Simon Birch" is all about.

Absoluetly. The books is beyond incredible. You know, they changed the story so much for the movie that John Irving wouldn't allow his name or his character's names to be afilliated with it! That's why in the credits it says "Suggested by A Prayer for Owen Meany" or something of that nature. :)

This scene features the score 'Life Goes On' and it's probably the best piece of the movie. This score alone from Marc Shaiman was enough to make me consider purchasing the soundtrack.

I remember watching Patch Adams a few months before Simon Birch and I could tell the similar tones used since he composed that also.
