@mjjcng8958 Watch "The Majestic" its a serious movie and I think a good one of him. Based on some guy that loses his memory (i know) and has to decide which life to choose. PG-13 maybe.
Love this scene, I always took that deer as if it was Joe's mother. Maybe it was God, or maybe just a deer. I guess it all depends of how strong your faith is. Which is what the "Simon Birch" is all about.
this song going be for couple 15 year about my family and im going say not day goes by that thank god bring my boyfriend in my life im sorry love this song
Mark Steven Johnson (director) uses the "Into paradise, may the angels lead you" on a tombstone in Ghost Rider; he mentions this in the film's commentary (and also pointing out that nobody has seen Simon Birch...lol).
For anyone who wants to play 'Spot the Difference', read A Prayer for Owen Meany... have fun! XD
Anyway, I only vaguely remember this movie... I think I only ever got to watch the end (the bus in the water part). Since I was little, I cried to death; but, after reading the book and watching it 9+ years later, I have to say that the book, to me, was more touching than the movie.
No offense to the fans of the movie, of course. o.o
It's weird i have seen this movie soo many times in fact i have it on DVD yet i do not remember this part... BEST MOVIE I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE THOUGH!!
YOu sould read the book which inspired Simon Birch film. The story is .... oh my God so great (different than this one) and no comparison at all1!! really, you'll know when you read it!!! :))))
I agree. I think this movie does right by being a rather poignant family feature but I guess no movie can never fully make the translation from the book.
Absoluetly. The books is beyond incredible. You know, they changed the story so much for the movie that John Irving wouldn't allow his name or his character's names to be afilliated with it! That's why in the credits it says "Suggested by A Prayer for Owen Meany" or something of that nature. :)
Yeah, he did praise it still but obviously this was no Owen Meany. I would like to see him do a screenplay and maybe help out on the set if they were ever to do a movie more closer to the book. I know he did it with The Cider House Rules and that got quite a few awards.
I think you should all read A Prayer For Owen Meany, the book which Simon Birch film is based on. TheYOu will know what I mean when you read it! :)))))
This scene features the score 'Life Goes On' and it's probably the best piece of the movie. This score alone from Marc Shaiman was enough to make me consider purchasing the soundtrack.
I remember watching Patch Adams a few months before Simon Birch and I could tell the similar tones used since he composed that also.
i didn't cry but very close to, i'm a man... not that men don't cry just not infront of people lol... have to agree with you this is one of the the BEST films ever out there...
Jim Carrey had a very good year back then. He starred in The Truman Show (even though the Academy overlooked him), and also did a very effective cameo appearance in this movie.
Simon dies because he saves the kids from drowning in the bus. He always belived he had a reason for being small and that is shown at the end when he can fit through the window (I think it's a window, but I can't remember for sure)to rescue the children due to his size.
Everytime I see this movie, I somehow miss exactly WHAT happens to Simon. All I end up seeing is he and Ben walking into the cabin right as the reverend makes his little confession to Joe. Then I see him lying in the bed dying until the end. >.< It's so frustrating. I know he saves the kids, but how/from what, I don't really know...
Man, this movie is just...something great, I remember the first time I got it on DVD, I was so f-ing grateful to have it on DVD, and I watched it a ton, it's in my top ten films of all time.
