I dont know if you have tried it and i bet people have thought of it, but why dont you solve the centers as a 3x3! You get about 10.5 seconds on the 3x3 and it took you about 30 seconds to get the centers using the other way! I was just thinking that!

It looks like he is using a new V-cube set, seeing as his old ones all had white instead of black stickers. My guess is that his old set got too loose so he bought a new one (which is why they're not quite as smooth...yet)
