@lovelyaley That's because the roots of this music was brought over to America from Ireland and Scotland and firmly planted in the Appalachian Mountains about 150 years ago, and has evolved to this fine result!
@TheEldoradoKid : This music is from Quebec. The French, Irish and Scots are all descendants of the Celtic. So this type of music came to our North America via all of these peoples. If I missed anything, do let me know.
hey guys, beautiful music! Id just like to give you some info though...... The 2 nd tune is an old Irish Reel called Miss Minaghan's!! .......
Monaghan being the name of a county in Ireland where im form. It is really great to hear the connection between Irish music and American counrtry/ swing....love the video ye did backstage of "ALL OF ME"
Just want to say though that the 2nd tune is called "Miss Monaghans"....Monaghan being the surname of an irish woman. Its also the name of the county that im from in Ireland> Its an old irish fiddle reel!! great to see it being played across there! love the vocal harmonies when you sing, and as a guitarist myself id love to know how you get those chord shapes in!
Ha! Gracie seems to have a just a hint of the "old fiddle-mouth" going! I can relate to that. Words can't decscribe the talent these young ladies have! STUPENDOUS!
You girls are the great musical find of '09 (for me) Your talent is awesome and your love of the music so evident, it's infectious....... and I got the disease!
Wow! I never heard of this band until today (Christmas Day) a rebroadcast of a radio rebroadcast of a interview with the band at 2008 American Folk Life Festival in DC. I just had to look them up online. What amazing sound and just lovely people. Excellent! Excellent!
This is by far the happiest video on Youtube...What a great family you have and they sure do play great! You can see it in their faces the love they have for each other...Keep it up!
Great playing. I was introduced to your music a few months ago by a friend of mine from Forth Worth and love it. He had attended a fiddle camp where you were playing. Great to see your videos on you tube.
Wow! Gives me chills. There is a pretty strong theory (I'm exploring it in my master's thesis) that Texas fiddle is pure Irish, directly transplanted. I'd love to discuss that! Check out my music videos as well, please.
As someone who plays an oldtime style that is strongly influenced by Texas, and has been to England and played in Irish Jam sessions, I can conclusively say that there is a big difference in the rhythmic feel between Texas and Irish Fiddling.
A lot of the tunes are the same, but no matter how hard I tried to sound Irish, nor how many pints of Guiness they fed me...they still kept saying, "We love your American style fiddling." :-)
...But everywhere in Ireland there are different fiddle styles! Plus, I have discovered that, in the early days of recording, Irish fiddlers who'd come to America found that their records were reviving the styles of their home counties which were being lost.
Superb performance by all. Hard to believe you can watch this video for free.
Thanks so much for sharing, Don from Ontario
