  • my mom was singing this song all day. she loves it!

  • @kr1st0ph3rn0r0nha my father too ;-)

  • I LOVE IT !

  • Prettiest woman singer ever

  • beautiful woman,with a great voice

  • sounds gospel.

  • A great Australian

  • til ære for min lille søstre

  • This is a great song! We sing it every Pfingsten at Ove's camping site in Denmark. (Near Assens)

  • Thanks!

  • Voice from above!

    Yes.

  • Cracker ( and before you racist americans get on here in australia a cracker is something which is superb or beyond terrific),of a song. Gee god worked overtime when he created that voice.

XD

  • A superb song and the melody is nice and there is meaning in the lyrics.

  • 17 dislikes they have to be Lady Gaga fans. This is real Talent and what a lady.

  • If you want to hear a true interpretation of this song just search "three pickers ohio"

  • What a horrible bastardization of a great old song. The real song is about doing something terrible and having to pay for it (which comes in the last verse which she leaves out). The way this ***** sings it it's like it was a cool thing to do - like some sort of Thelma and Louise crap.

  • Olivia Newton-John was an EXCEEEDINGLY attractive/fit bird, 40 years ago ! (And, of course, in those days one could use the word 'bird' - in its colloquial sense - without being labelled as a "male chauvinist pig" by members of the 'Politically Correct' brigade.)

"Bank Of The Ohio" is a fine song - albeit one with VERY maudlin and depressing lyrics. It reminds me of a track called "I Did What I Did For Maria" by Tony Christie - which was a big hit at approximately the same time.

  • great job on this song charley pride did this song its on the album make mine country

  • Olivis Newton-John, Suzy Quatro, Crystal Gayle, Suzy Bogguss, Linda Ronstandt......LOVE them alll.....

  • I never heard her sing this song, I do love the song but it's better sung by a trio or quartet, the Carters really did the definitive version.

  • As a kid I was a fan of Olivia and Debbie Harry. I consider myself real fortunate.

  • not too bad for lip Synching out a bit at times but what do you expect shes terrible live

  • hot

  • I would swim the Ohio... for her!

  • She aint pretty, she's damn sexy

  • @spazman6117

I don't know what she looks like now, but back in 1971 she was absolutely gorgeous. That much is crystal clear from watching this archive footage of her singing "Banks of the Ohio". 7 years later, in 1978, she starred alongside John Travolta in the motion picture "Grease", and she was still seriously fit then.

  • awesome

  • Whta TV show is this--I have never seen this before?

  • Sehr schönes Lied!

  • i love it ♥

  • just look at how these people gave my favourite singer the clap . Bastards .

  • beauiful voice, beautiful song, beautiful woman. ... can it be much better? :)

  • How does this woman sing this song so sweetly when the lyrics are so psycho? Its an incredible condratiction.

  • @mitzi7416

Oh, I wouldn't say that. "Banks Of The Ohio" is indeed a maudlin song, with very depressing lyrics - but, of course, Miss Newton-John did not actually MEAN the words that she was singing - any more than Tony Christie meant the words of "I Did What I Did For Maria", which had been a big hit earlier in the same year [1971].

  • Hieno balladi, kiitos.

  • MOST BEAUTIFULE AND THIS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONG OHIO RIVER!!!!

  • love this song and love the singer Olivia ,

  • Good enough for a murder scene, I guess?

  • The Ohio River isn't that impressive. Just a very wide, dirty river. Still, a rather nice song.

  • Awesome song :)

  • senki mondja magyar nyelven, hogy tüneményes

  • csilla,csilla, csilla

  • Csillát pedig kiváltképpen imádom

  • imádom a zenét és a nőt

  • Gyönyörű,Gyönyörű,Gyönyörű,

  • Listen: Neca Falk- Dravski most / Banks of the Ohio

A singer from Slovenia. I think its very good!

  • OLIVIA always had the best backup singers, most she did herself.

  • disturbing lyrics sweetly sung which makes it all the more disturbing.odd.

  • @mitzi7416 exactly...I had never heard this Olivia song until a few months ago was just bobbing along to it until I really listened to the song and I was just "wow did she just sing that?"

  • A great singer and a great woman. Geweldig!!!

  • @mrsorangecountry

    Isn't she lovely and beautiful!

  • ovlia thankyou!!

  • Oh my God, she was so young and sweet in here. I love this Song. Her Voice is so beautyful. Olivia is so wonderful. I was a teenager when I heard this song the first time.

  • OMG...! estaba como para comersela...!

  • thats is a beautiful song and quite a beautiful singer aswell

  • I think that this is absolutely lovely one of my all time favourites.U go girl xx

  • I held a knife against his breast. . . .

  • I was rubbish at guitar in music lessons at school but this was only a key or two if I remember rightly so I actually got an accomodation award for playing it. Everytime I hear this, I can picture exactly where I was siting strumming away in the school classroom. Classic!

  • great vidioe

  • this is from the German Disco series (year 72)... i was 12 (aaarkk) and this was HOT stuff!

She still is and the song makes me feel great - as my 10 year old son asked me today to look it up as he is playing it now on the guitar.

  • omg

  • Wasn't she just gorgeous?

  • @SSRifleman

    She Still is :)

  • What year was this made?

  • @busibeth it was released in either 1971 or 72; I remember when it came out

  • Gorgeous! Great song.

  • My mum loves this song and I grew up listening to it , love it , awesome tune :)

  • Out of all the versions of this song, this is the most beautiful.

  • I love Olivia's version of this song.

  • This song has the same story as the song "That Knoxville Girl"

  • this is a great song she can really sing i 've alwaysed loved her singing

  • Voice and face of an angel.

  • the box seems a check jijiji

  • She seems way too happy to be singing a song that has a murderous twist. Kind of funny...

  • the clapping,,, so everyone had a good time thats important

  • You're absolutely correct. Why the f... do German TV makers think that this stupid clapping has to added to almost every live performance. And btw I'm a German.

    CGT

  • Handclapping is nearly always terrible.

I remember, that some conducters had forbidden the audience to clap, for example claudio abbadfo during the Radetzky Marsch at the end of the Neujahrskonzert by the Wiener Philharmoniker

  • the clapping is way far too fast and out of tune

  • White people. It's our curse.

  • This is a good version. Most get it toooo fast.

  • I love this song. I first heard it performed by Garrison Keilor (though with the genders inverted). It's so haunting. It sounds like a standard love ballad, but the murder adds a bizarre twist.

  • Beautiful song, heard it after many years, brought back memories. Thanks.

  • A wonderful song with a haunting melody. It was one of those songs that would get into your head and stay there for days. One of my favorites!

  • There is nothing 'stupid' about it...audience clapping adds volume and bass in the studio so it sound better !

  • Stupid clapping - must be here in Germany ... !

  • a great video of a great song by a great (and pretty) singer...

  • Yes,its good.......its good

  • wow !!!!! 1972 in the German TV - I was 9 and already in love wit Olivia- long before Grease and Xanadu !!

  • wat year of this video is? kool thx sharing

  • Is there anymore songs and videos from this same tv show with her singing?

  • Great song, great version;I also like Johnny Cash version

  • I thought of this song because of an arrest made in the case of Annie Le. But the way she sings it is cheerful and professional, displaying none of the drama or emotion that is contained in the words and story of the song. It makes me wonder.

  • please explain this story. Thank you. Arora

  • grease is the best EVER

  • Fair comment - Grease was a lousy film. All the "teenagers" looked about thirty. Could never understand its success. Don't know why your comment has been negged.

  • cheers for the support easybeat, its the way of youtube the anoraks that negged it know no better,it just seems sad that after that awful film her career nosedived,i seem to remember she had a health scare some years after it,still i'll remember her music in a much happier mode pre grease.

  • Yes, there is an Ohio river. No, it isn't where she's from, it is in the US, in Ohio. This is an old traditional ballad from the US that probably goes back to the 1800's, and is similar to another song of the same period, "Pretty Polly". It has been recorded many, many times over the last 80 years, but this version is sung beautifully.

  • @carlpr2 Actually the Ohio River flows from Philly down till it meets the St. Louis river and makes the Misissippi River. it goes past Ohio, Kentucky, Indianna, and Illinois.

  • Spomin na mojo mladost in njen angelski glas.

  • This is a song I can listen to 10 times in a row ! Lovely Voice ! She has such a Great Voice !

  • Lovely voice cool song popular in New Zealand in 1971/72

  • She looks lovely, charming with intelligence and wit. Of course singing well. A singer I can't forget.

  • A lovely little lady & a nice little song,I concur with your comments entirely.

  • absolute class :-))

    James Ireland

  • Among the most beautiful songs ever, by one of the most beautiful singers ever.

  • I agree, this lovely little song has a charming effect on me it really moves me, & Olivia Newton John is exquisite, I am remindid of all the good people I met in America. enginedriver64.

  • It's funny, I feel exactly the same - reminds me of all the great friends I made when I lived in America in the mid 80's and mid 90's!

  • The Kiwis

I agree. She has a beautiful voice too.

  • i love olivia Newton John

she is half Australian half british and a little bit german her father is nobel prize winner Max Born

  • @allemagne92 You're close but not quite right on a couple of things.

  • @allemagne92

Her mother Irene is German. Irene is daugther of Max Born, so Max Born, father of Quantum Physics, is Olivia's grandfather.

  • @allemagne92 Her grandfather is Max Born. Olivia's mother was Max Born's daughter.

  • Es ist ein so schönes Lied. Schade das es so wenig gespielt wird.

  • This is really when I fell for her!!!

Loved her then and love her now!!!

    Köszönöm a feltöltést!

  • She is beautiful.....I love that song!

She is along witth The New Seekers, Melanie & Shocking Blue - my "first musical love".

And thank "god" she's still around and strong as ever.

  • She is beautiful.....but her hair does nothing for her lovely face.

Were there no decent hairdressers around in the '70s ?

She'd look better bald I think.

And dressed in black, she'd be a different animal.

  • 1976 midnight

  • Takes me back to my hometown, Durbs RSA and Radio 5, Radio Port Natal. Those were the days, on the banks of the Umgeni

  • What a wonderful song ! I`ve ever dreamed of a woman who wanted to have a walk with me. Great song. Anyway.

  • One of my favourite Olivia songs

  • i love it

  • the song is way older than that.could be approaching 200 years old

  • Written late 1700's. Recorded first in 1927

  • This is just weird Olivia singing a early country / folk ( dating back to the 1920's ) song about killing a girlfriend , to a happy bouncy light pop tune . Enjoyable though .

  • yeah, I know the happy tune is kinda strange?
