I'm a half ass fiddler in South Carolina and always looking around for something more interesting than crying in the beer country music. I like the old time music and some Irish but this is phenomenal. I have played it a hundred times over trying to get the particular noting between the phrases. I will learn this piece even though I'venot a clue as to what it is, except awesome.
Do these two fellows have any other videos (or names, everyone has a name ) that can be accessed over the net.
This is swedish folk. I'm sorry to say that I can't tell you the name of the songs although they are wery common . I don't think there's anymore by this group on the net.
The first tune is a bridal march from (the region of) Jämtland. It is quite common, search for "Jämtländsk brudmarsch" or "Jämtlandssången". This was traditionally played on the wedding day when the bride would walk in a procession with friends, family and musicians from her home to a place where they would meet the grooms' procession. There the two processions would join up and proceed together to the church, where the couple to be wed would stride down the isle together.
That's a crazy-looking instrument right there. I had no idea such a thing existed. That fiddle looks like a winner. Very fascinating. I'd kill to get my hands on one.
You make it sound like they're everywhere in Sweden haha. I play myself, and it's very hard to find someone else who plays, but then again, I don't exactly live in the right place for it.
Well, how one tune them can be quite individual. My teacher had some complex system for tuning each resonance string to the note which was closest and most played and lots of stuff I didn't quite understand (mainly because I didn't ask in detail).
Anyhow, you have 12 strings, so you tune them one to each note in an octave, usually from G to G# (from high to low), or from F# to G or from F to F#. I use the last of them, but when I get my new harpa, I will probably change that.
The beautiful Nyckelharpa from Uppsala in Sweden <3

I stumbled across Hedningarna's album "Kaksi" in a used-music store in Chicago a while ago; not quite the same style, but worth a listen.

No? Where do you live, then? Actually, in my in-laws place they have one and I´ve seen several being played in different events. :-) Love them!

In the very south of Sweden. Very uncommon there.

Ahh, you don´t have many key fiddles but you have nicer weather, then ;-) Congrats on playing it ! Grattis!

I also play, and I live in Dalarna, Sweden. But I don't know how to tune the resonance strings...
