"Obscure" trivia about "Obscure" Al Corley -- In Season One of Dynasty, he was Blake Carrington's gay son. In real life, he was a former Studio 54 employee...
Blake was kinda of villian in the first season. We must remember, he raped Krystle. But then after he accidentally killed Ted Dinard and got off the hook for that, the writers made Blake into a nice guy as Alexis eplaced him as the villian.
Nevertheless, Blake was a very shrewd businessman and could play just as dirty as Alexis did. However, the difference was that Blake had a conscience and Alexis flat out did not care who she hurt to get whatever she wanted.
I actually like the theme better without the trumpet. This is also the only season to have that long, sweeping opening at the very beginning. Best theme version by far in my opinion. The other versions were too screechy for my liking.
@goldfinge I'm not sure I'd agree something is missing,at least in the aesthetic sense. The absence of brass in the opening season is conducive to the epuration of the lungs as I inhale the crisp Rocky Mountain air,the heavier brass sounding more solemn in keeping with the business activity becoming more cut-throat as the show advances.
This soap brings me so many memories! The music is fantastic. It was a TV series from ABC. The theme music is from Bill Conti. His is well known from his music from Rocky, The Karate Kid, Falcon Crest etc.
Weird to see Dynasty opening credits without Alexis, but Joan Collins didn't join the show until season 2 and the addition of her character was eventually hailed as the main reason the show became a huge success.
Sadly, JC also contributed to DYNASTY's demise. Her character hailed all of the campy sequin sh*t. No matter what, THIS version of DYNASTY was what it was was originally envisioned.
Well if they had stuck with the way the show was going in season 1 the whole thing probably would have been cancelled soon after. DYNASTY became gigantic all over the world much thanks to entertaining characters like Alexis and her feud with Blake/Krystle.
Dynasty was a character driven, smartly written show in its first season. It started to become more sensationalized in season 2, and disolved completely into camp crap by season 3. But since the average television viewer back then was rather shallow, it's no wonder they preferred the clothes and camp to substance.
damned! where's Alexis??

Have to love the genius of Bill Conti for theme songs...recycled Dynasty for North and South mini series!

They'd never spend 1:31 on a TV theme opening now! Missing the trumpets and Alexis, but still excellent

@Rheinmetall1 Indeed, without Alexis, Dynasty is a kinda boring.

@Rheinmetall1 Alexis made Dynasty what it was. Without Alexis the show felt like a poor man's Dallas except without the Barnes/Ewing feud.
