yup, 56 + (2x14) to get the total age of both father and son after 14 years, then divide by 3 to get the son's age and then multiply by 2 to get the father's age.

if still in doubt -14 from each age 28-14=14, 56-14=42 and total age's 56yrs

@hungrysponge I think so many ppl got it wrong because they first tried to divide 56 by 2 and then add the 14 years..and then people tried to add 14 years to 56 and divide it by two...but the main reason is because i think EVERYONE forgot that there was a 56 year age difference between them to start out with!!! lmao yeah, joon isn't stupid...and if he is..well he's definitely NOT ALONE. XD

@hungrysponge the question is very badly phrased. it could mean the father's age+ the sons age=56years in which case the answer would be (son28 father56) or the difference between their ages is 56 years in which case u would be correct. however i am more inclined to believe it is the former from the usage of the word 'total' if it were to mean the latter it should have been phrased 'the difference in age between a father and son' or 'the age difference between a father and son.'

@devipful: No cause in this equation you must find the value of x & in order to find out what x stands for you put x on 1 side & all the other numbers go to the other side so it becomes 2x= 56-14x2. Basic rule in math is when you change equations like these in order to find the value of x, the signs should be changed to their opposites because their original direction is changed too. In this equation +14/2 turns into -14x2 cause the opposite of + is - and of division is multiplication. Get it?
