Bruno Balz, who wrote the lyrics to this song, was persecuted for his homosexuality, even after WWII. He is not given proper credit for many song lyrics he wrote because he used pseudonyms and tried to hide his identity.
And no, you can't misread this song as a pro nazi one - only if you are not able to speak / read german properly and hear things like "held, blond etc."
and the world is flat, colored black and white ;-) Sorry, but not everything German from the 40's is Nazi. Like in any dictatorship, there were artists who tried to stretch the boundaries of what would be allowed as far as possible to envelop hints at criticism. This is an example.
Listen to the text. As in many of Leanders songs it can be read quite subversively:
Waldemar is discribed here as the nazi clichée of a jewish appearance - and still the love of the singer's life. This is what the nazis would have called "rassenschande"
Or just listen to "Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein" - same topic.
Mein Hund heisst auch Waldemar! :D

Ganz köstlich. Sie hatte eben neben "hochdramatisch" auch "extra-komisch" drauf.

burgcochem your comment is so unnecessary... In this context here the song was meant to be comic, funny.
if you would speak german you would understand that she sings
he's called waldemar, and has black hair
he's neither proud nor keen but I love him
he's called waldemar, and he is no star,
he's from berlin, but I love him
this is put into context with the first few lines where she sings about the third reich ideal of a blond, heroic, strong fairytale kind of guy
THINK!

bulshit, this was very popular song in germany in the 1940's.

Waldemar was not blond, the perfect nazi man. He was from the east, a slavonic profile. This song would not be appreciated by the SS.
