Hey Guys, this is $31 on Amazon RIGHT NOW. No joke (I'm not being paid by anyone or any company to say this, I just bought it on Amazon for CHEAP, just search "trendnet 80g" in the search and it's the first product to show up.)
I got a similar one, TEG-S800Dg, difference is it has built in powersupply with grounding and shielding. I tried to measure its power usage as well my old switches. My old ones used 7w and another 12w (even older switch). The power usage for TrendNET Was too low for it to measure and showed 0w :p
@X3N4T3 I read somewhere that the switch sends a report to the pc (100% power) the pc then recieves the report (e.g. 75% power) the pc then tells the switch that the delta power (100%-75%) is 25% and the switch then powers the cable at just over 25%.
Just wondering do i have to upgrade all my CAT5 cables to Cat6. Because some of them are quite long(20-30meters). Would i get 1gbps speed using cat5 cables?
you should do a video about the differences between hubs, switches, and routers. saying what each does and what each is best used for. i would def watch and appreciate it!
thanks linus :) and even if you don't i'll still watch all your vids, i've learned alot from you bud haha
@panther98291 you don't need a whole video for that. essentially, a hub is layer 2, a switch is layer 2 with a mac table, and a router is layer 3. understanding the layers of the OSI model is what the video you should be asking about :)

Thumbs up for metal casing!
I hate how a lot of consumer networking products these days are in ugly rounded plastic enclosures.

@GODZILLAMANASS From what I can tell (with a quick look at Newegg), these cost about the same as a non-green switch.

What exactly is a switch??

How does it know if the cable is 2 or 20 meters?
Maybe looking at the ping, but if the onboard card sucks it might think your cable is 20 when it is 2?

It seems that every router-switch you unbox has a blue unfavored predecessor.
