From the Augsburg Confession - Book of Concord - 1580, which contain the ten statements of faith that Lutherans use as official explanations and summaries of what they believe, teach, and confess. It is the standard of what Lutheranism is.
Article XXIV: Of the Mass.
1] Falsely are our churches accused of abolishing the Mass; for the Mass is retained among 2] us, and celebrated with the highest reverence.
@tmaclure3 This is not the mass but a vesper but what you say is correct. However if the service is called anything else than the mass - you can say it is abolished. The word 'mass' is still used in the Scandinavian countries.
@karpov89 Thanks for the clarification. I really loved watching your video. I wish more Lutheran Churches in the States embraced their Catholic heritage/past.
In fact, in recent times, I've seen more Lutheran Churches here trying to distant themselves from it. One Lutheran Church near my home remains Lutheran but took the name off of the front.

@thedoctorplusone It is no 512 (Hymn book of the Swedish Church) Det ringer till vila (evening hymn). Lyrics: Archbishop J.O. Wallin (who has written many hymns, this was written in Järvsö and is also known by that name) 1838 and music: I. Widén 1916.
This is a beautiful church, beautiful organ, and glorious acoustics. I loved the procession with the thurifer, crucifer, torchbearers and banner bearers. This very much reminds me of a high-church Anglican Vespers as well. Thanks for posting this video!
Well you are wrong about that. This is a hymn which is written in Swedish and Swedish is the language of Sweden. Had it been Roman catholic it had also been sung in Swedish. Latin is not the language of Sweden although some music can be in Latin.
@jojanv They might be singing the liturgy in Latin if it were Catholic, but this is a hymn, thus it is in the native language. However, this isn't a Catholic service anyway, though it's not far off.
@speaks3703 Well there may be parts in Latin, and even Greek in the liturgy eventhough it is not Catholic, like in "Julnattsmässa i Mariakyrkan 2 - Christmas night mass in the Church of St. Mary 2"
It is the biggest cathedral in Scandinavia and truly magnificient...the Church of Sweden as a body is much more high church than the American lutheran churches, and this is especially high church.
@mrstjs Well this was a special occasion, but the Cathedral of Uppsala is magnificent. Maybe you should talk with your pastor so that the parish could adopt a more High church liturgy
I mean, in this ceremony the pipe organ it's too noisy, it cover the voices.
koiny2009 5 months ago
@koiny2009 Well the sound of the camera is not perfect....maybe a bit loud in one or two of the verses, but it is also tradition with powerful organ.

@papa6912 In some it is. I know of several in my area. I agree though that it is not this way in nearly enough parishes.
