What's going on here! All of the drums covers of "My Hero" have had the same problems.

Only some people realize that there are toms being played in the intro, not just the kick. And the one's who play the intro with toms forget that there is a quarter note hi-hat pulse underlying the entire rhythm!!

As far as I know, Dave crosses over from floor tom to snare WHILE hitting quarter notes on the hi-hat and keeping the driving kick beat going. A technique I haven't seen anybody do on here.

@anolte7 Dude, the toms on the intro to the song are overdubs. Listen to the snare - there's 3 of them (at least!) on the intro. He plays the straight beat underneath and overdubs the toms and some snare flams on top.

@CharlieTRB Bullshit! Dave doesn't NEED to overdub drums. He just hits really fucking hard and makes his rhythms sound as full and powerful as possible. As for the toms, you just cross the left hand over from the snare to the floor tom and it sounds exactly like the recording. If I can play it with relative ease, then there's NO way Dave Grohl has any need whatsoever to overdub that shit.

@Jesssethebody64 No, Dave actually recorded all the drums for the first two albums. There were the exceptions of "Doll" and the beginning part of "Up In Arms." Taylor was added to the band right after the album was recorded and after William Goldsmith quit. That's why you see him in the picture on the album, but he never played on any of the tracks.
