I went there over the summer and I had a BLAST!!!!! For all of those people who haven't been there be sure to make that one of the places that you really want to go to!!!!! Plus they are known for there fudge! When i went I rode horses, ate fudge, and did a lot of cool things!!!!!
Three of my Grandparents worked at the Grand Hotel back in the late 60s and early 70s. We visited every summer back in the 50s and 60s. Great memories of riding horses with my brothers and eating fudge. I hope to visit again.
My dad worked there when he was a teenager. He would be 91 now. His name is Leonard Albrough. He grew up in Brimley and always talked about the hotel. He loved working there.
I too worked there in the early 1970's and cherish the experience. Memorable was working a cocktail party on the Porch, working at the Golf House in the evenings when the "fudgies" had gone for the day, and with staff from the Bahamas/New Orleans too, especially those known to the regulars. Finally, "Grand Hotel" was filmed there with Esther Williams in the 1940's along with the famous swimming pool and the swimming stars of the time - try that one from the archives. Love this clip - thanks!
You video could have been 10 times longer and I would have watched every second of it! LOL Please go back and take some more videos :) Thanks SO MUCH for posting!
thanks for the tour! My dh and I go to the island every summer, but never paid to see the inside of the grand. Although, we did sneak on the grounds at night to see the gardens, very pretty....
And I just remembered my uncle worked there when he was like 26

Why does it look like there was NO ONE there?!?!

There was a power outage on the island, and it lasted the entire day of my trip, but it is oddly calm - and the reason I was able to get in.
