Kin Crimson had a lyricist for their 1st 4 albums (Peter Sinfield), by which time he and Fripp were the only 2 originals left. That was his last stand, and then there was only Fripp. I liked Sinfield's lyrics. I'm glad Procol kept Reid.
I am now totally hypnotised and brainwashed, been listening to this fantastic group Procul Harum all day, i haven't heard some of these songs for 10-20 years, there are so many more to listen to, it's gonna be a long day/night. This song defines TROWER POWER.
It's the lyrical genius of Reid that sets Procol apart -given voice through the great Brooker. Love Cream as well -they shared a preference for idiosyncratic lyricists.Only Jack could make Brown's imagery in anyway plausible. But can we for a moment consider what a union Syd Barrett, Gary Brooker, Jack, and Reid -not Pete Brown , would have made.Even the Beatles would've given them the lane to pass.
epic resonance. majestic organ of matthew fisher and trowers stinging guitar bring it all back home. first listened to this in the winter in wawa ontario when it was 40 below zero.
Happy 65th to Gary Brooker today 5-29-10 Sat - great tune off the 1st LP - I have all nine. yes happy I'm old enough to have grown up with all the great creative music of the early 60's thru the 70's. To me the most interesing music of the rest the Century came out of this period.
One of the most classically sophisticated--musically and lyrically dense bands that ever existed...If there is any justice in the universe...Procol Harum needs to be inducted into the R n'R hall of fame...soon. I mean...these guyz invented prog-rock.
Yep! Same with my Dad. But he told us... First time was two yrs earlier pre-Fillmore East. At the Anderson Theater 2nd Ave and 4th Street: Moby Grape top billing, Mitch Ryder & Detroit Wheels, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Procol Harum. OMG! I guess concertgoers got their money's worth in those days?! LOL:P
He told us Procol was on their first US tour, blew all these acts off the stage and these acts didn't even mind cos they acknowledged Procol was so briliant. That's so cool... :)
I am THE Procol Harum fan...this is one of those great, unknown classics. The organ and Robin still blow my tits off. BOOM! There they go.............
Besides the Beatles, I can think of no other band that combines the artistry and imagination quite like this group...or should I say "Quite Rightly So."
I once had the album which this song was on. Though the tune was in my head, I couldn't remember the name of it. So I kept on sifting through all of the Procol Harum tunes on YOuTube until I finally found it!!
I haven't heard this particular classic in over 3 decades!!!!!
Thanks a bunch!
And a very nice video touch too. I'll be back for more, you can count on it.
jojo tohle je pecka minimalisticka kytara Trowera je husta a vsechno ostatni taky
Yeah this is big one, minimalistic Trower´s guitar is heavy like everything around, wish I could play like that, no speed only right tones, masterpiece.
I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Brooker in Chennai in May 2005 when he came to the city to do a concert in aid of the tsunami victims. He appeared at a mall called Spencers. Andy Fairweather Low was with him. Never thought I would meet two sixties icons in Chennai.
This song proves that even back in '67 Robin Trower was an awesome guitarist/soloist (of course everyone else in Procol Harum back in their heyday were awesome too!)
This sounds re-mastered ! Excellent !

"Cerdes". Del album Procol Harum, del grupo de rock del mismo nombre, de septiembre de 1967. Una mezcla del rock alternativo y el rock sinfonico.

I think Pink Floyd played prog-rock before Procol Harum...

@victor170769 If you consider Floyd's first LP to be Prog I guess. Both started in 67 tho, not sure which debut came first.

The bends are massive. The band plays with complementary textures where each instrument means something.

Great driving tune! In a groove- Trower solid as always. Real music - not like all the crap out today! - I love the 1st 5 LP's best with Trower.
