If USA is facing such a huge Skilled Labor Shortage then Why dont they introduce a Skilled Worker Immigration program for USA based on point system. I mean Australia, Canada, UK, Denmark all of them are successfully running this program then why don't USA. They should attract Skilled workers with this program and retain them with offering immigration. This is the solution for solving Skilled Labor shortage.
Obviously you would not know a skilled worker if you tripped over one. I am talking about those over 50, of which I am one. I have a BA in business, an IT degree, several industry certifications, good planning, analysis and management skills and since moving back to Canada last year, I have only gotten secretarial work. I was a stay at home mom, started work late, have skills. Re-examine policies towards non-trads over 50 & you will find qualified workers. This is an H1B push by big business!

You couldn't be more wrong. As someone sharing your 50+ status, I encourage my clients and employers to value the experience and wisdom we bring. HOWEVER, the skills many boomers have are not the skills that businesses need to go grow and go forward. The employers you apply to are obviousley living in the past. These businesses will be in big trouble in the near future since Canada's demographics indicate it is aging rapidly.
Thank you for your response to my concerns. I am a Provincial worker in the Maritimes, and yes, they are the first to admit that they are headed for trouble. I am just not certain what my next step should be. I am willing to train in a new direction IF necessary. It's just that there is no clear direction yet, and at 55 and still owing college debt, I am cautious before undertaking more, unless I have reasonable assurance it leads somewhere. Experience with IT industry has made me very cautious.

I'd encourage you to pick up a copy of The Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink. This is a book every employer and manager and employee should be reading.
