its a cargo area door- not a liftgate or trunk lid. nissan engineered the rear of the cube with safety and a low center of gravity in mind. robust portions of the rear frame are kept lower due to the absence of overhead hinges. this also maximizes rear window visibility for the driver. the cargo door opens fine regardless of the parking position. "only next to each other as is the case in japan" ?? how ignorant!

I got the cube in August 2009 and absolutely LOVE it!

Only thing I can't stand is the windshield. It gets so many chips in it and now I need to get it replaced because a piece of salt hit one of the small chips in the glass and made it crack and spread :( Am definitely waiting till spring comes along so I can get it fixed then and not have to worry about getting a new windshield ruined now in the winter.
