Oh Japan! Much love here from the U.S.A. :D I love how they actually care about going out to stores and experimenting with their clothes. Here, atleast where I live, people don't bother with their fashion. T-shirt and jeans and they call it a day. Stores, like Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch are popular, and in my opinion, they just look like simple clothing with a logo. Not all, but a great majority of it. I'll definitely be watching Japan for inspiration on my wardrobe. :]

Well this is obviously quite old (1999- at most 2003): the "ganguro" gals have diminished almost completely and now there's the new breed of gals who may still tan but won't wear those platforms or the outrageous makeup. And believe me, foreigners won't get that much special attention now esp. In Tokyo... I should know this as I'm half Japanese and noone has stopped my white family like that EVER. good program though.

I am Chinese, and even I find japanese culture and japanese people hard to understand. They are unique in which you can not categorize them into asian or western. But nonetheless, it's that uniqueness that attracts people from all over the world. I met some japanese in the US and they seem very nice and well mannered compared to the Americans or the Chinese.

Japan is an intriguing country, because they have thousands of years of history and culture but in the cities, they live modern, consumerist lifestyles that makes them new age. Japan is an industrialized country, and is unique in being homogenous, that is why a lot of western people find interest in Japan, because there really is no other place like it.
