I knew someone whos dog had too big of a litter and rejected a couple of the pups. Since they were in a rural area and couldn't get to the vet over the weekend, this is what they did for the pups to survive for a couple days. Kinda strange, but it works, and really, it's a baby drinking milk. We think it's cute when we see a dog that's adopted a kitten and allowing it nurse, or the cow that adopts a foal. One species helping the other survive.

Maybe the puppy's mother died or ran away, unable to feed her pups? Maybe the puppy's mother couldn't provide milk, so the owner had to step in.
