No offense, I'm not here to agree with the NOI nor am I against it. For I respect all religions, even though I myself am a Hermitic Spiritualist. However I have deep respect for the NOI search for knowledge and truth, and I must say because of them there wouldn't have ever been a Malcolm X, Even though Malcolm X went on his own to study the truth Islam ( I prefer him better when he left). Brother please don't discredit our brothers from the NOI as not teaching "true" Islam.This is a common mistake but just as their are different sects of christianity the same holds true in Islam. What the NOI taught under Elijah was a message needed to uplift a specific nation(blacks)& teach them the knowledge of themselves & their greatness at a time when they were told they were nothing. I have studied Islam extensively & with an open mind I might add.I was raised in an Islamic household since birth. My grandfather was a sunni as was my dad who later joined the NOI. I've seen it from both perspectives & see good points in both. And I stand by my comment Islam as a natural WAY OF LIFE existed before the prophet (pbuh) who established the RELIGION-there is a difference. No hate-P.E.A.C.E

Peace soulmman.... I think each individual has to decide for himself the right path. My only thing is I don't think the arab or "traditional" way has to be the end all be all bc what works for one may not work for another.Same goes 4 the NOI.I must say though that culturally, u must understand blacks wanting a message that was specific to helping them progress both spiritually/economically at a time when they needed it most.I will leave you with a quote from Muhammad Ali in closing:

The equality of Blacks and whites and any colored-people were for the first time ever declared in the qur'an and islam on a worldwide scale. Before that, all blacks were slaves in the arab world.

We both agree this (Islam)was the way of life of Abraham &all the prophets & that the religion was said to be perfected 1400+ years ago with the revelation of the Qur'an thru the prophet(pbuh).Where we disagree is in the NOI's right to a different interpretation of scripture in relation to the coming of their Mahdi or saviour (MFM). Also as far as skin color-Elijah Muhammad's son Ishmel is one of the highest ranking members in today's NOI & his skin is probably lighter or as light as yours.Also there are many hispanic members of the NOI btw. Amen, sister: I believe there ARE good men out there. And sometimes we have to find each other in roundabout ways. I'm at the end of a 20+ year marriage because it took me that long to realize I AM a strong woman. One worth loving. And I'm strong enough in myself to be kind to him during this time, despite the way he behaves and treats me.
