@DoxiMoxi The stick is better overall, yes. But the analog stick on a brand new N64 controller is better. It just wears out really easily, and once it's worn out it becomes one of the worst things ever. Which makes it bad overall, because it's going to spend a lot more time worn out than it is new.

@DoxiMoxi Oh, absolutely it is. I know because I can't find a single N64 controller now that isn't nearly useless. Interesting mechanically though. The inside of an N64 analog stick is very similar to the old ball mice that used optical disk encoders. I'm fairly certain the Gamecube and wii sticks (and probably the ps2 ones as well) are variable resistor based... But the reason N64 sticks wear out is because the plastic axles aren't strong enough to deal with friction.

Man Nintendo Wii has so many cool accessories but it has one problem. Not many good games! I mean it's too casual. Sure Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Smash Bros. are good but... if you are a hardcore gamer it just doesn't attract you. Is it worth it to buy it just for the few good games it offers for hardcore gamers? I've heard that Mario Galaxy is quite challenging.

@PSspecialist Wii mostly appeals to kids and sometimes to early teens but if you are in your late teens you should consider buying a PS3 or an XBOX because the y have more teenage appealing games whereas if you still like simple cartoon violence and mischeif games like mario cart and sonic colors get a Wii.

I truly believe that the nunchuk was inspired by the N64 controller. Look closely at the nunchuk and the middle prong of the N64 controller they look nearly the same from the curve of the handle to the z button and control stick.

I majored in engineering I make the crap you use I design it I know the demenstions and they don't match the N64 middle joystick they are nearly the same with the ascii grip v2. The nunchuck (included with the wii) is the thing you plug to the wii remote(wii's controller) for those special games that require a joy stick. the nunchuck has motion sensing just like the wii remote too. the wii motion plus is an attachment for your wii remote too allow it to give out a true 1 : 1 motion sensing experience. That means it is more acurate with your movements so whatever you do it mimmicks almost exactly. Also the wii remote, wii motion plus & nunchuck can be used together.

The wii motion plus only works with games designed for it. Wii sports resort comes with 2 free motion plus accesories which is great. Im not sure if it comes packed in with the wii now but most likely it does not. Be on the look out because the wii if full of shovelware (horrid games made only to profit from wii's success) and choosing poorly will result in disatisfaction. It is always good to do reaserch on the net for great games.  There are tons of them with Mario kart as one of the best!

I wouldn't deride the casual gaming market.  Casual gamers, such as children, are the next generation's "real gamers". They are the future. If the Wii brings more interesting casual games to the market and thus attracts a new generation of people to become hardcore gamers in the future, then that can only be good for the industry as a whole.

(Also, play Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn on Hard mode. It'd make some "real gamers" cry.)

Besides the "hardcore" consoles tend to be little more than advanced gaminging oriented PC's (XBOX in particular, but that's not surprising).

They don't bring a whole lot more to the table than a PC with good gaming qualities. (and there's more flexibility with controlers on a PC, and many PC versions of games have better technical quality, assuming the PC takes advantage of it)

The Wii on the other hand has a lot of interesing unique features.
