There are many vegetarian sources of protein. Beans and grains for starters. She wasn't telling you to eat only fruits and vegetables. Just to eat a lot of them.
YOU HAVE VERY BAD INFORMATIONS ABOUT FOOD! I RECOMENT YOU TO STUDY A BIT ABOUT PROTEINS, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT WE CAN GET ALL THEM FROM THE VEGETABLES!
It's funny because it's the first time I see this, yet I researched veganism (plant-based nutrition) a lot when it came out in August 2009 as I was transitionning fully to it.
Documentary "Forks over Knives" - The two men in the documentary/clip are Dr. T Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn. They both have incredible credentials. Dr. T Colin Campbell is one of the top scientists in the US and ran "The China Study", the largest and longest running epidemiological study in history. Dr. Esselstyn is a cardiac surgeon who ran one of the first/best clinical studies proving that heart disease can be reversed with diet alone.
this is great, but, isnt it more important (for a active male particularly) to have red and white meat in the diet as well, suppose you play rugby and you need good quality protein, you cant get that in fruit and veg! although im sure all the said foods above, fresh fruit organic veg etc, Is good for you, i have trouble understanding wher a good source of protein can be derived from other than fish, red and white meat etc! but i will agree, there is nothing like organic! you tell the difference
@FoodForAthletes Gluten and dairy is POISON!!!..we are all miserable and sick because of it!! kids have ADD and autism from it, and the food industry just wants us to consume more and more!!, and most doctors just want us to live off of pharmaceutical drugs that cure nothing!!
@MrTeejaysingh Interestingly enough, plant protein is far superior to meat, because it is more readibly digested and used. ALL plants contain complete proteins, just eat enough calories, you need to eat 10 grams of carbs pr kilo bodyweight, at a minimum of 3000 calories pr day. If you do that and not undereat as most people do, you will never have protein problems, regardless of your activity.
@MrTeejaysingh Protein molecule can not be absorbed by the body directly. They have to be broken down into its constituent amino acids before they can be absorbed. Plants and fruits have amino acids (and protein too) which your body can absorb directly and make protein for its use. You don't have to eat protein.
The point is why is a plant based diet very important for athletes, because its a alkaline diet; and if they are perform so many hours per day, this caused a lot acidity, lactic acid, produced by the muscles, which can cause cancer in the long term. I teach in my courses how to avoid this.
If you knew what I knew, you'd be vegan too.

Well said, Martina! Eat things in their whole, natural and unaltered state to get the most out of them. It's about simplifying your diet, really.
