  • David cook is amazing no matter what people say and having his brother (R.I.P.) on stage with him makes this show much more special... Specially dressed as Santa.

  • Hunger Strike is one of my favorite covers that David does. He is a truly gifted singer.

  • Guyliner!!! :) And Skibby! And fingerless blue glove!!! There are almost too many things that are awesome about this video. <3

  • kind of a weird sounding key... sounds a step lower or so.. but still good.. he's really talented

  • That guy can not sing Eddie's part.

  • What a fantastic cover, its not better than the original, but he did it with a clear respect and admiration of the original, sang it with soul and even added some stuff of his own. Really impressive!

  • This video is all kinds of awesome.

  • david cook is not better than chris cornell, i like davids voice its not bad, he doesnt murder the song .. he does it justice, but prime for prime. if you take the early 90s screaming chris cornell (like in the song say hello 2 heaven) he blows cook away..

  • As if this douche could EVER hold a candle to Chris Cornell ... please. And maybe he should write his own damn songs rather than degrade this own with such a karaoke style performance. Sorry, but David Cook needs to get the hell out of (Chris Cornell's) Dodge.

  • @jaynseattle he looks up to Chris asshole! And he does write his own fucking songs so i wish u a lifetime of erectial disfunction and constapation asshole!

  • Chris Cornell needs to get the hell out Chris Cornell's dodge. He's making dance music with Timberland for Christ's sake.

Give credit where credit is due. David Cook can sing despite whatever label you may have given him due to his time on American Idol.

  • Hahaha dude, seriously go get ur facts. Not because u know David Cook since Idol that that's all he ever did!!!! He's a goddamn great lyricist. Go check his work with former band Axium and his solo album before idol and then u can actually have an opinion about David Cooks' songwriting!

  • love say for them... Nice 2 meet!! ^^

  • I'm pretty sure that Cook sings this at a lower key (full tone) lower than Cornell.

  • @Lilibethc2002 I guess I don't understand that it matters what key it's sung in because you still have to hit all the notes no matter the key. I'm a woman but I'm a natural tenor. I sing some songs beautifully but in a naturally lower key than a soprano. I don't get what it matters.

  • I think David sings this better than Chris Cornell. Chris goes up into a falsetto and David can hit those notes without doing that. No offense to Chris fans, just my opinion.

  • Chris hits them in full chest voice, clearly you don't actually know what falsetto is. Falsetto is much lighter sounding, the word literally translates as 'false voice', think the guy from the Darkness. David Cook has nowhere near Chris Cornell's vocal range, not even close. And yes, this version is sang lower than the original. Still not a bad cover though by any means.

  • Not really...

I mean i really like David Cook, but Chris Cornell has a phenomenal voice and something tells me he would completely disagree with your opinion.

The fact he's singing this song says a lot.

  • @aburleigh93 completley agree i think Chris gets more respect because he's been around longer, but doesn't mean a newcomer cant b a little better than him

  • @lizzirez I wish you a lifetime of misspellings.

  • @69OneTime excuse me bitch we all cant be as well educated as you PRETEND to be u fucking misanthrope!

  • @lizzirez shut up nigger

  • @69OneTime o you can see through computer screens too,o great one?

fuck off im not black asshole

  • Douche-y? No.

  • I came across this when I was looking for Hunger Strike covers. I usually think David Cook is a little bit douche-y, but I have to give him credit. There is something really sexy about seeing someone who can hit all the Chris Cornell notes in this song.

  • Part of the reason I like Cook is because he has some good musical influences, such as my favorite bands Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters, and it shows in his music so it's cool.

  • LOL, Andrew, "'cause I'm Chris Kringle!"

  • DC sounds pretty good but I don't like the second singer too much. His voice is a little high to do this song. And DC, between this and Billie Jean, appears to be a pretty big Chris Cornell fan, which is cool with me.

  • Lol, he changed the key so that he wouldn't have to sing as high as Chris Cornell. Can'tt say I blame him though.

  • That was fucking boss. He totally nailed that.

  • best cover

  • Wow...David and Andy sound awesome together!

  • hes good. i love archie though! they both rule!

  • I think I already commented on this with my old screen name but I wanted to again. Yeah I definitely think I was really close to you! Thank you so much for taking this video, it's so much better than the one I took and I absolutely loved this song and performance.

  • Temple of the dog wasnt a band it wa a tribute CD to alice in Chains Layne when he died from a heroin overdose, But i love the CD and this is a great cover.

  • no it wasn't >_>

Layne didn't die until years later...

  • It was a tribute to Andy Wood from Malfunkshun, who played with guys who would later go on to form Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

And I'm thrilled about this cover, because I'll never get to hear the real thing but this is a damn good second.

  • @seattlesound9194

    ... and Mother Love Bone.

  • Temple of the Dog was a band formed by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, as a tribute to fellow Seattle musician and friend Andrew Wood, who died from a heroin overdose in 1990. The band consisted of Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden, and Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament, who later went on to form Pearl Jam with Eddie Vedder. I just thought I'd clear that up for you and any others reading this.

  • glad to know some people can keep the story straight. but you forgot to mention Ed singing the second vocal on the original =/.. jk man. props

  • @boycottqfm It was a tribute to Andy Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Layne in 2002, way after this song came out.

  • @Danklin24 Layne died in 2002.*

  • @boycottqfm

layne died 12 years after the CD be released, so, you're wrong

    and it was a band

  • no it was a tribute to mother lovebone singer,

  • Layne died in 2002. Temple of the Dog was formed in 1990...a project yes...but still a band.

  • "Santa's not southern." He is adorable. Great video, thanks!
