Wealthier people have advantages in terms of tax policy that Middle Class people don't have, so in effect they pay a lower tax rate all around than Middle Class people as a rule. So by increasing the top tax rate you are mostly bringing that unfair advantage back in line.

We've had a progressive tax since the 1800's until Bush dismantled it 8 years ago. Reinstate it to balance the budget.

So under Obama's plan, you are better off than McCain as for McCain you are NOT the wealthiest of the wealthiest. $250,000 net income does not represent the majority of Americans. The IRS code is the law. Imagine if I have a business makine 250k and my expenses are

300k, then I have a minus, I am broke and unable to pay taxes. That is why you get to SUBSTRACT all your expenses from your gross income and call that your NET(what u take home).

If you make 250K and have the expenses of

100k, then your net income is 150K so you fall into the 150K bracket.

The real issue being discussed here is the fact that Senator Obama came right out and used the term "spread the wealth around" (I don't believe this particular clip shows that portion of the conversation, but it is what they are discussing and it can be seen elsewhere on youtube). This is important because that is a strong catch phrase for socialistic ideals. In the past, Obama has been pretty careful to avoid such blatant phrasing of his ideology.
